Leadership

Success in the business world tends to follow strong leadership. Leaders deliver results with excellence and integrity. Leaders build cohesive and collaborative teams. Leaders enhance the success of others. Leaders make an impact in companies and in their communities.

At UNC Kenan-Flagler, you’ll develop leadership skills – and requisite interpersonal skills – with the same rigor and focus you’ll apply when you learn the technical aspects of business. In the classroom, in extracurricular activities, and through unique experiential learning opportunities, you’ll build, practice, and refine these important skills.

Strong leaders possess a keen sense of self-awareness. We’ll help you develop this sense as you pursue your MBA by using assessment tools and other resources to strengthen your individual effectiveness as well as your effectiveness as a team leader.

Strong leaders also work well in teams. Teamwork begins in orientation and continues throughout the curriculum. You’ll have numerous opportunities to practice solving problems, giving and receiving feedback, and reflecting on experiences for maximum learning.

Leadership experience

To develop even deeper skills in the most critical aspects of leadership, you can select and participate in meaningful leadership experiences that align with your own unique leadership goals. Together with your career coach, you’ll identify these goals and match them with the right opportunities that allow you to practice and apply your skills in experiential settings and explore specific leadership topics.

These optional leadership experiences include workshops, business simulations, access to expert speakers, developmental assessments and reflection, and personal effectiveness training. Participation in these programs can earn you recognition with recruiters and places additional emphasis on personal leadership development, providing you with skills that will help you influence and inspire others at every stage of your career, including:

  • Understanding your strengths and how to best leverage them
  • Listening to others to identify opportunities and challenges
