The UNC Kenan-Flagler Charlotte Executive MBA is designed for experienced Charlotte-area professionals who are looking to gain the strategic perspective and accelerate their career through a rigorous and collaborative MBA experience. We seek sharp-minded, driven individuals from a diversity of backgrounds and industries who will offer substantial contributions to the classroom, adding depth to class discussions by sharing work challenges and solutions, and contributing viewpoints based on real-world experience. Enthusiastic support of your cohort peers is critical to success in the program. We welcome a new cohort in September each year.

Eligibility

Two years of professional work experience required, with five years preferred
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
Demonstrated career progression and proven leadership ability: experience managing people is preferred, but team leadership and management of projects, budgets or products also count
General understanding of accounting, statistics, finance, and economics
Strong written and verbal communication skills (we use the essay section of the application and the interview to evaluate this)
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, including financial and statistical functions

Please note: International students in the Executive MBA program are not eligible for U.S. student visas. However, students in our Full-Time MBA program are eligible for visa sponsorship.

Standardized test scores

GMAT/GRE score requirements

Applicants who have five or more years of professional full-time work experience at the time of application are exempt from the GMAT/GRE requirement and do not need to fill out a waiver.

An official GMAT or GRE score is required of applicants with less than five years of full-time work experience. Some Charlotte Executive MBA applicants with less than five years of full-time work experience at the time of application may still be eligible for a waiver of this requirement.

Information for applicants submitting a GMAT/GRE score:

Self-reported scores can be used for preliminary review of your application.
UNC institution codes: GMAT: D40-HL-07; GRE: 0024.
There is no minimum test score requirement.
We will accept scores up to 5 years old.

GMAT/GRE waiver process

Applicants who have five or more years of professional full-time work experience at the time of application are exempt from the GMAT/GRE requirement and do not need to fill out a waiver.

Applicants with fewer than five years of full-time work experience who believe their career or previous academic achievement has prepared them with a strong quantitative background should apply for a waiver.

Strong academic performance, specifically in quantitative subjects, additional degrees and career experience are the main criteria for waivers of our standardized testing requirement. We’re looking for your ability to succeed in quantitative-focused courses, and there are many ways students may demonstrate their ability on this dimension.

If you receive a conditional waiver, online or local courses in accounting or statistics will be recommended so you’ll have the skills foundation and comfort level to fully engage from day one of the program.

Examples of academic or professional background that may qualify you for a waiver:

Undergraduate and graduate course work in quantitative, analytical or technical subjects (e.g. engineering, statistics or computer science)
Work experience in quantitative, analytical or technical functions
Quantitatively-oriented professional certification (e.g. CPA or CFA)
Completion of another standardized graduate admissions test (e.g. LSAT, MCAT and PCAT)

Please note that GMAT/GRE waivers for applicants with less than five years of full-time work experience are not automatic and an approved waiver request does not guarantee admission to the program.

Request a GMAT/GRE waiver

To request a waiver, fill out this short form. It will take about 5 minutes to complete. The form will ask for:

Basic demographic information
Resume
Unofficial transcripts from all degree-granting institutions
A statement 50 words or less outlining any aspects of your current work or background that you feel are particularly relevant to the Admissions Committee’s consideration of your waiver request

You may submit the form before you have started or completed your application. Typically, the committee evaluates and responds to waiver requests within just a few days of receiving your waiver request.

Please note: Each of our MBA programs have individual test waiver request processes and requirements.
You should complete the above form only if you are interested in applying to our Evening MBA program or Charlotte Executive MBA program. If you are interested in applying to our Full-Time MBA or Online MBA programs, you can access the waiver request within the application for those programs.

MBA admissions interview

Upon submission of the application, you may receive an invitation to interview with an MBA Admissions Director. An interview is required to secure admission to the program. Consult this guide to help you prepare for the interview.

Admissions decisions

We will notify you of your admissions decision by email, usually within 2 weeks of your interview. Upon admission, a $1,500 deposit will hold your place in the class. This deposit will be applied to your first tuition payment.
