Weekend MBA students

Balance work, life and study.

The Weekend Executive MBA program is a transformative leadership experience, optimally designed so you can pursue your MBA while balancing your already busy work and personal life—wherever in the country you may live.

Convenient schedule

Classes are held approximately once a month throughout the program. Additionally, Weekend Executive MBA students are required to participate in two Impact Weekends, with peers from our Evening Executive MBA and Charlotte Executive MBA programs.

During the Core in your first year, each term includes two in-person weekends (Friday – Sunday morning classes) and one virtual class weekend in the middle (half day Friday and Saturday classes). With Thursday night accommodations included during in-person class weekends, you can choose to travel in early to prepare for class, meet with your study team, and take advantage of social time with peers in Chapel Hill.

Most students spend 12 to 20 hours a week in individual study or team meetings between class weekends.

Concentrated learning

The Weekend Executive MBA program is optimally designed for busy professionals seeking to maximize their personal development and networking experience, with a blend of two immersive, in-person residency weekends and one virtual class weekend per term. In-person residency weekends allow you to focus on coursework without distractions, gain valuable perspective through classroom and social interactions, and build strong connections with classmates that will last your entire career.

Between class sessions, you have the flexibility to complete assignments and asynchronous course material, maintain personal commitments, and take care of business travel and work obligations.

During your second year, you’ll have access to several dozen elective course options to target the skills you need to achieve your career goals. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiential and global learning. Executive MBA electives are offered in a variety of scheduling options – including weekend, weeknight, and virtual course options – giving you significant flexibility to customize your MBA.

Orientation and Impact Weekends

Each incoming class begins the program with a weekend-long Orientation in early January, ahead of the start of coursework in late January. During Orientation weekend, you’ll start to develop relationships with your classmates and study team, get to know the program staff and faculty, learn more about the career and leadership resources you’ll access throughout the program, and discover the Chapel Hill area.

After that, you’ll come together with peers from all three of our Executive MBA formats for two dynamic Impact Weekends. These required courses are held over a three-day weekend, and are offered alternately between Chapel Hill (March) and Charlotte, NC (September). During Impact Weekends, you’ll participate in lectures and workshops focused on special leadership topics, hear from area executives, engage with local employers, and network with peers and UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni. You’ll also have time for social activities to deepen your connections with classmates.
