Evening MBA Program Schedule
Year 1 - Core courses, Monday evening only
In the first year you’ll strengthen your business fundamentals with core courses. These courses are designed to provide both strategic and tactical learning. Core courses meet only on Monday evenings from 5:30 – 9:50 p.m. (including breaks). This schedule ensures that you gain the skills you need through rigorous and relevant coursework, combined with the efficiency you need to balance your MBA along with work, travel and personal commitments.
Year 2 - Electives, Monday and/or Tuesday evening
In the second year, you’ll have access to many electives to customize your MBA and further strengthen your skill set in a particular area. Electives are offered in multiple formats, but the traditional Evening MBA electives are either Monday or Tuesday from 5:30 – 9:45 p.m. (including breaks). This provides you with an opportunity to manage your course schedule with your other work and personal commitments. Alternative elective options offered are: Weekend MBA classes, practicums, and immersions.
Elective courses, begin at the conclusion of the Core program around the beginning of December and continue through mid-October of the following calendar year. Evening students are required to complete the equivalent of 11 courses (22 elective credit hours) and may take up to 12 courses in the Evening format (24 elective credit hours) at no additional cost.
To maximize productivity, Evening MBA elective courses are taught in a blended format (blend of in-person and online coursework); each meet in person four times, the majority of which take place on alternating Monday evenings. In order to offer additional electives over the course of the calendar year, some courses may be held on a different weeknight or over the course of a 3-day weekend. Evening students are also able to take Weekend Executive MBA elective offerings for an $800 course fee or Online MBA (MBA@UNC) electives for no additional cost. Both Weekend MBA and Online MBA electives are available to Evening MBA students on a space available basis.
During the Evening MBA program, you’ll participate in three dynamic immersion weekends: Orientation, Leadership, and Closing. These immersion weekends provide you with an opportunity to immerse yourself in more intense experiential learning and create deeper bonds with your classmates. During Orientation weekend, lodging is provided for students. Partners are also invited for special activities and social events early in the program so they can familiarize themselves with the environment and your classmates, and meet other partners and spouses.
