UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School

Admission to the Kenan-Flagler Business School is competitive. In keeping with the history of UNC as the nation’s first public University, we pride ourselves on attracting a strong, diverse student body that is both academic and community minded.

Applicants are encouraged to seek pre-business advising from the General College Division of Social Science Advisors. An applicant who takes advantage of pre-business advising and recruitment events proves most successful in the application process.

Prerequisite courses do not need to be complete at the time of application, however it is typically beneficial for the admissions committee to see grades/performance in as many prerequisites as possible during the admissions review.

Notes regarding the new accounting prerequisite:

  • Starting in Fall 2018, BUSI 102 Financial Accounting (a 1.5 credit hour mod or half semester course) replaced the former requirement, BUSI 101 Managerial Accounting.  Students with existing credit for BUSI 101 (with a grade of C or higher) can use that to satisfy our accounting prerequisite (and will not have to take BUSI 102). Note that this curriculum change is not reflected in the 2018/2019 UNC Catalog as it was approved after the publishing deadlines had passed.
  • BUSI 106, offered through the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, will not be accepted as an alternative for the BUSI 102 Financial Accounting prerequisite for the business major or minor at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
  • Transfer students who bring in transfer credit for BUSI 407 (Financial Accounting and Analysis) can use that course in place of BUSI 102 to satisfy the financial accounting prerequisite.
