UNSW has multiple term options for students to pursue.
Most Kenan-Flagler students will choose to do a Tailored Term, which is where they take one short ‘Summer’ or ‘Winter’ intensive course, followed by a standard term where they take three courses, for a combination of four total UNSW courses.
Tailored Term 1 runs typically from January to May (Summer Term + Term 1). Tailored Term 3 runs typically from August to December (Winter Term + Term 3). If a student elects to not do a Tailored Term, and solely pursue a single standard term, they can take a maximum of 3 UNSW courses, limiting the amount of credit they may transfer.
You may elect to do a semester internship for academic credit. An additional fee, directly payable to UNSW, is charged for the internship.
Courses taken at UNSW will transfer back to UNC Pass (UNSW grade of 50 and above)/Fail (UNSW grade below 50). Pass grades do not affect your UNC GPA. Fail grades transfer back to UNC as Fs, which will affect your UNC GPA. Though transfer credit for this program is Pass/Fail, future employers and graduate schools will also look at the UNSW transcript, so grades are important. Courses taken abroad are not inherently easier than those on campus nor designed to guarantee a passing grade. In many cases, they may be more intensive due to condensed timelines, unfamiliar academic systems, or differing teaching styles – for example, the final grade may be reflective of only a cumulative exam at the end of the course (homework, presentations, papers are not factored in). We encourage you to carefully consider the academic expectations and rigor of your chosen program and plan accordingly to ensure your success.
Most UNSW courses are worth the equivalent of 4 credit hours. You will transfer back 4.0 UNC credits for every 6 credit course at UNSW, and are expected to take four courses worth 6.0 UNSW credits each during the semester if you pursue a Tailored Term. Though each course is worth 4.0 UNC credits, students are permitted to earn a maximum of 3.0 BUSI credits per course at UNSW. Therefore, a student who earns a 50 or above in all 4 courses approved for 3 hours of business credit will receive a total of 16 UNC credits for their semester abroad, 12 will count toward BUSI credits and the rest will count as general, non-business elective credits. If a student only takes 3 UNSW courses, the maximum amount of business credit they may transfer back is 9 credit hours.
View the ‘Credit Hour Conversions’ accordion on the ‘Academics Procedures‘ page for more information on credit hour conversion from UNSW to UNC.
After the semester concludes, students will receive access to their digital transcripts from UNSW through the secure online transcript platform, My eQuals. Students should then send their transcript to UBP Global through My eQuals for credit transfer processing.
This program also fulfills the Experiential Education requirement or the High Impact Experience requirement (if you are under the new IDEAs curriculum). Full-time enrollment in this program is defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours.
