LSE offers courses in Finance and Business and Management that will count for Kenan-Flagler business credit.
You will take either one or two courses in this program in consecutive sessions. You cannot take more than one course per session. These classes will transfer back 4 UNC credits for each successfully completed course (LSE grade of ‘C’ and above). To study abroad through Kenan-Flagler, you must take at least one business course while you are abroad, so if you choose to take a course that is not approved for business credit, your second course must be one that is approved for business credit.
Per Kenan-Flagler policies, the maximum amount of business credit students can receive per course is 3 credit hours. Thus, as LSE courses are worth 4 UNC credits each, if you are taking a business elective equivalent course or a 3-credit hour core class equivalent at LSE, 3 credits will transfer back as business credits, and 1 credit hour will transfer back as general elective hours/hours towards graduation for each course you successfully complete. To study abroad through Kenan-Flagler, you must take at least one business course while you are abroad, so if you choose to take a course that is not approved for business credit, your second course must be one that is approved for business credit. Please note some of the most popular courses (such as Marketing) do tend to fill up quickly, so we encourage students to have back-up course options in mind.
Business Core Courses Approved for Summer 2024 (course approvals for Summer 2025 will be updated in December):
- EC201: Intermediate Economics for ECON 410 (offered in Session 1)
- FM250: Finance for BUSI 408 (offered in Session 1)*
- AC110: Principles of Accounting for BUSI 407 (offered in Session 1)
- MG101: Marketing for BUSI 406 (offered in Session 1)
- MG204: Leadership in Organisations for BUSI 405 (offered in Session 2)
*Note: FM250 for BUSI408 has been notoriously challenging for Kenan-Flagler students in past summer terms as taking this semester-long course over three weeks is challenging both in content and time. We encourage you to think through this carefully should you decide to enroll in the course.
Business Elective Courses Approved for Summer 2024:
- MG 103 Consumer Behaviour for BUSI 562
- MG 107 Management Analytics in the Age of Big Data
- All 200+ level Business and Management courses
- All 200+ level Finance courses
- All 200+ level Accounting courses
Any course that does not fall under one of the categories listed above is NOT approved for business elective credit for Summer 2024. Economics courses at LSE are NOT able to be taken for business credit, with the exception of the ECON 410 equivalent course, EC 201. If you have a question about a course and how it will transfer, please email us at ubpglobal@kenan-flagler.unc.edu
Students wishing to take only business pre-requisite courses or only non-business courses at LSE should pursue study abroad opportunities at London School of Economics through UNC’s Study Abroad Office.
Courses taken through the program will transfer back to UNC Pass (Grade of C and above)/Fail (Grade of C- and below) – (LSE grade of ‘C’ and above)/Fail (LSE grade of ‘C-‘ and below). Pass grades do not affect your UNC GPA. Fail grades transfer back to UNC as Fs, which will affect your UNC GPA. Though transfer credit for this program is Pass/Fail, future employers and graduate schools will also look at the transcript, so grades are essential. Courses that are not pre-approved for business credit will transfer back as general, non-business hours toward graduation. View the ‘Credit Hour Conversions’ accordion on the ‘Academics Procedures‘ page for information on credit hour conversion from LSE to UNC.
To ensure that your course selections transfer back to UNC, you are required to submit an official course transfer request to the Course Request Database as soon as you have access to your course syllabi. This applies to all courses for academic credit, including pre-approved courses. Please review a Credit Transfer MyKE Overview for more information on transferring coursework, credit requirements, etc.
This program also fulfills the Experiential Education/High-Impact Experience requirement.
