Student Life
  • Overview

    The UCD Lochlann Quinn School of Business Summer Internship is an eight-week program combining academic, experiential and cultural elements into a holistic curriculum designed to ensure the student has the most engaged, international experience possible. Two weeks of intensive academic courses book-end a six-week internship placement at a leading Irish or multinational company.

    The program structure is detailed below:

    Week 1: Orientation & courses at UCD campus
    Week 2-7: Professional internship placement in Dublin, Monday-Thursday, approx. 32 hours/week

    Week 8: Complete academic work and projects at UCD

    The Internship Component:

    Each student is typically interviewed in April to review their education, experience and skill set. Based on this information, each student will be placed into a suitable role by the Internship Manager and their team.

    Students will receive notification of their placement at the end of May and will meet with their employer during week one of the program. Details are issued to the student on arrival.

  • Academics

    Students on the UCD Summer Program will enroll in 2 intensive academic courses and will receive 6 hours of Business elective credit for their successful participation on this program. Students must take the core course and are able to select their second course from the elective course listing.

    Course 1 - Core Class- Ireland's International Business Environment;
    Course 2 - Elective previous elective options have included: Business and Global Development, Business Analytics Finance Project, and Marketing.

    Students participating on this program will transfer back 3 UNC credits for every 3 credit course at UCD, and are expected to take two courses worth 3 credits each during the summer. A student who passes all courses will earn a total of 6 UNC credits for their summer abroad. Full-time enrollment on this program is defined as 6 credit hours.

    Courses taken at UCD will transfer back to UNC Pass/Fail. Achieving a grade of C or above will transfer back to UNC as a pass course, which will not affect UNC GPA. Students who receive any grade under C will fail the course and an F grade will transfer back to UNC, which will affect their UNC GPA. Though transfer credit for this program is Pass/Fail, future employers and graduate schools will also look at the UCD transcript, so grades are important. This program also fulfills Experiential Education and you will earn points towards the Kenan-Flagler Inclusive Global Leadership graduation requirement.« PrevNext »
