Through the Global Internship Program in Seville, students spend eight weeks working with a local company or startup while building professional skills, developing intercultural competence, and expanding their global perspective.

Seville is the capital of Andalusia, Spain’s southernmost region, and one of the country’s most dynamic destinations for international students. Known for its historic architecture, rich cultural traditions, and welcoming atmosphere, Seville offers students the opportunity to experience daily life in a major European city while benefiting from a more manageable size and cost of living than some of Spain’s larger metropolitan areas.

In recent years, Seville has emerged as an important center for innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, renewable energy, tourism, aerospace, and international business. The city is home to a growing startup ecosystem, multinational companies, and organizations working across a range of industries. Internship Placement Overview

Internship placements are customized based on each student’s academic background, professional interests, skills, and career goals. Students work with COWA and local partner organizations throughout the placement process and will have the opportunity to interview with prospective host organizations before placement decisions are finalized.

Placements are typically hosted by small and medium-sized businesses, startups, and growing organizations across a variety of sectors. These environments often provide students with opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects, develop transferable skills, and gain exposure to multiple areas of an organization while working closely with managers and organizational leaders.

All internship placements are vetted through COWA and its local partners to ensure they provide meaningful professional learning opportunities aligned with students’ academic and career goals.

Internship schedules vary by host organization, but students should expect to work approximately 30–40 hours per week. Some organizations may offer reduced summer hours or flexible schedules, particularly on Fridays, though this varies by placement and cannot be guaranteed. Depending on the host organization, internships may include a limited remote-work component; however, the majority of internship experiences are conducted in person to maximize students’ exposure to the Spanish workplace and professional culture.

Language Requirements

Spanish language experience is not required to participate. Students may be placed in English-speaking internship environments or pursue Spanish-language placements if they wish to further develop their language proficiency and intercultural communication skills.

Professional and Cultural Development

In addition to their internship placement, students participate in a range of cultural and professional development activities designed to help them better understand their host community, build connections, and reflect on their international experience. Programming may include welcome and farewell events, cultural excursions, networking opportunities, professional development support, and visits to regional sites of cultural and historical significance.

This program is run through COWA, a third-party provider. COWA was founded on the belief that international experiences should be accessible to a wide range of students, regardless of previous travel experience. The Global Internship Program combines professional growth, cultural immersion, and local support to create a meaningful and achievable experience abroad.

COWA’s internship services include:

• Customized internship placement for 8 weeks
• Customized matching, interview coordination with employers
• Housing in shared suite with 3 single studios at a modern student residence hall, including top amenities, AC, and breakfast provided M-F only
• Programming: pre-departure orientation, health & safety orientation, cultural & social immersions (welcome/close dinners, cooking classes, tours, weekend trip to Cordoba/Granada), networking events, etc.), and local country support
• Cross-cultural professional development & career advising support
• 1:1 Mid-program check-in
• Visa support for non-US students (US-domestic students do not need a visa for this program)
• 24/7 support for medical or legal emergencies
