Spend eight weeks working for a company in Seville, Spain, the largest city and capital of the Andalusia province (southwest region of the Iberian Peninsula). Originally founded by the Romans (or Hercules in Greek Mythology), Seville is a river port city connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Seville is a blend of rich history and cultures, having been under European and Al-Andalus (the Moors) control for several centuries. It served as a major port during the early ages of exploration in the 1600s and includes dark historical moments such as the Spanish Inquisition. Seville is now a modern European city, hosting millions of tourists while having a population significantly smaller than Madrid. Explore churches, fortifications, plazas, and museums to learn about Seville and Spanish culture. The city has several major industries: aerospace (including an AirBus plant), tourism & hospitality, agribusiness, food processing, renewable energy, port operations, and technology.

During this summer experience, you will apply the theories and concepts you’ve learned in class to an international working environment, learning and practicing the professional customs, behaviors, and norms of another culture. Internships can range from English only to fully Spanish if you are seeking Spanish fluency.

Internship work schedules vary by company, but are typically 30-40 hours a week. In Spain, it is not uncommon to have Fridays off during the summer, but this is not guaranteed based on your placement. Partial remote schedules may also be part of your work schedule, but the majority of your international internship will be in-person to learn the Spanish work culture.

Academics

On this program, you will be enrolled in BUSI 393–Internship Credit. This 3.0 business elective credit course includes submission of reflective activities assigned by UNC and a written evaluation from a supervisor that will be included as a component of your grade. In addition to earning business elective credit hours, this program also fulfills the High-Impact Experience requirement.

“Connecting Worlds Abroad (COWA) began in 2015 with the goal of providing an affordable study abroad option for every college student. We believe that all students should have an opportunity to study abroad before they graduate. To meet this goal, we work with collaborating universities to ensure that the programs we offer are tailoered ot students’ different needs. COWA is committed to creating inclusive, empowering, and transformative internship experiences for students and local partners alike.

Students in the Global Internship Program in Seville will work with small to mid-sized companies and start-ups in a variety of industries. Students will work with COWA and our partner Student Mobility to identify potential internship sites aligned with their academic and professional goals. Students will have the chance to interview with supervisors at prospective companies before placement is finalized.”

Withdrawal Policy: Once a student accepts their offer/enrolls on a study abroad program, the spot will be considered filled and will not be offered to another student. Students who withdraw from UBP Global are responsible for non-recoverable costs, including the Global Programs Administrative Fee. Your student account will be assessed charges to cover any/all amounts that Kenan-Flagler UBP Global programs have committed or paid on your behalf and are non-recoverable at the time of withdrawal. Such costs include housing, meals, transportation, and any expenses that may be associated with faculty and support participation in your program (if applicable).

*** Out-of-pocket estimates are based on the program cost, which is determined by combining the average costs our previous students have incurred in each category, along with the costs our partner provides to us as their averages. These estimates are subject to change due to exchange rate fluctuations, bank fees, and individual differences in cost of living.

Funding your global program

Scholarships & Financial Aid

The Undergraduate Business Program offers both merit and financial-need-based scholarships to support our students who wish to study abroad.

If you are applying for a Kenan-Flagler Global Programs Scholarship, please note that average merit scholarship amounts for this program range between $500-$1000.
If you are applying for a financial-need scholarship, the specific scholarship amount will be determined by supplemental UNC Office of Scholarships and Student Aid information.

Study abroad scholarship applications are embedded in the global program application and award amounts will be communicated with program decisions.

Travel Documents

Do you have a valid passport? If yes, check your passport’s expiration date to ensure that your passport is valid at least 6 months after your program’s scheduled end date. If not, you’ll need to submit a passport renewal application.

Do you need to apply for a passport (first time or renew)? If yes, we recommend that you get started on your passport application right away as you’ll need time to collect documents like your birth certificate to include as part of your application. For complete instructions click here.

Will I need immigration documents? If you are accepted into this program you may need to travel to a Spanish consulate/embassy in the United States to obtain a visa permitting you to study in Spain. For this appointment, you will need your passport in hand along with other documentation from our office and the host university office. The program provider will provide further information upon acceptance into the program. Please set up an appointment with your Global Programs Advisor to discuss.
