  • Overview

Kenan-Flagler Global Programs (KFBS semester exchanges, KFBS summer programs, and KFBS short-term immersions) are ONLY open to students who have been admitted to the major or minor Undergraduate Business Program. Pre-business students and non-business majors and minors are not eligible to apply to Kenan-Flagler Global Programs. Admission status to the Undergraduate Business Program will be verified for all applicants.

The Doing Business in China program starts at Peking University, Guanghua School of Management, Kenan-Flagler's prestigious partner university in Beijing, China. From there, the program travels to Xi'an and ends in Shanghai. Taught by Chinese faculty who are experts in their fields, the program gives an overview of doing business in China, including an introduction to the Chinese economy, history, and culture. Lectures and seminars on a wide range of topics allow participants to understand the driving force of China's economic growth phenomenon over the last 30 years and the future; appreciate the uniqueness of the Chinese market, organizations, and social structure; learn how firms conduct marketing, branding, human resource and strategic management in China; and identify business opportunities in China. The course includes lectures, case studies, guest lectures, company visits, projects, and cultural events. The program also includes sightseeing visits to major sites such as the Great Wall and Forbidden City. As this program draws MBA-level students from all over the world, only rising seniors are eligible to apply.

    Credit Information for KFBS Students

NOTE: This is a program primarily for MBA students. Undergraduates comprise 20% or less of each cohort, and only rising 4th year students will be considered for enrollment due to the rigor of the program.

This course gives an overview of doing business in China, and includes lectures, case studies, guest lectures, company visits, projects, and cultural events. Students will transfer three hours of business elective credit for the intensive two week course on Doing Business in China.

Courses taken at the Peking University Guanghua School of Management will transfer back to UNC Pass/Fail. Achieving a grade of 70 (out of 100) or above will transfer back to UNC as a pass course, which will not affect UNC GPA. Students who receive any grade under 70 will fail the course and an F grade will transfer back to UNC, which will affect their UNC GPA. Though transfer credit for this program is Pass/Fail, future employers and graduate schools will also look at the PKU transcript, so grades are important. Full-time enrollment on this program is defined as 3 credit hours. This program also fulfills Experiential Education and you will earn points towards the Kenan-Flagler Inclusive Global Leadership graduation requirement.
