The Irish Consultancy Experience is a new program launching in summer 2023 available to undergraduate students from business-related disciplines. This 4-week program combines academic, professional, social, and cultural components to offer students a challenging, stimulating, and rewarding program. This program will take place at the UCD Lochlann Quinn School of Business in Dublin, Ireland.

Students will develop an understanding of modern-day Ireland from an economic and cultural perspective and work on live projects with an Irish charity or enterprise. Within the summer consultancy project, students can choose to focus on a service learning or industry experience, allowing participants to personalize their program. In undertaking this program, students will enjoy the Quinn School of Business approach to transformational learning, immersing themselves in an opportunity to learn from diverse perspectives within diverse settings. Students will contribute to the Irish community, expand their academic knowledge, enrich their social and cultural experience and develop transferable skills. By engaging with the program’s experiences, students will expand their outlook, approach, network, and horizons.

A social program by UCD Residences is also available, including activities like hurling, film night, table quizzes, running clubs and high tea.

Program Structure
- June 6-7, 2022 – Students will arrive in Dublin. (NB: June 6 is a Bank Holiday in Ireland)
- June 8-11 – Program commences; Orientation & Cultural Activities
- June 13-17 + 24 & July 4-5 – Ireland’s International Business Environment begins
- June 20-30 – Summer Consultancy Project commences, Ireland’s International Business Environment continues, practical and cultural activities.
- July 1 – Presentation of research/ consultancy project at UCD
- July 5 – Program closes

Participants will undertake two courses and receive 6 hours of Business elective credit. Your first course is Ireland’s International Business Environment and will provide students with contextual information on the Irish business environment, on Ireland as a thriving location for international Business, and success stories of Irish Small-Medium Enterprises (SME). This course will also draw heavily on cultural components to allow students to develop a rounded understanding of Business in modern Ireland. The second course is based on the Summer Consultancy Project. This course will allow students to contribute to and engage with local businesses while learning new business skills, both inside and outside the classroom. The course will be taught through workshops, classes, and guest speaker presentations. In addition, students will complete a live consultancy project with an Irish organization, either a charitable organization or an Irish enterprise. The projects will be scheduled for review, assessment, and discussion at key milestones throughout the course and are fully guided and supported by the faculty.

Courses taken at UCD will transfer back to UNC Pass (UCD grade of C and above)/Fail (UCD grade of C- and below). Pass grades do not affect your UNC GPA. Fail grades transfer back to UNC as Fs, which will affect your UNC GPA. Though transfer credit for this program is Pass/Fail, future employers and graduate schools will also look at the UCD transcript, so grades are important.

You will transfer back 3 UNC credits for every 3-credit course at UCD, and are expected to take two courses worth 3 credits each during the summer. If you pass both courses you will earn a total of 6 UNC credits for your summer abroad. Full-time enrollment on this program is defined as 6 credit hours.

This program also fulfills the Experiential Education requirement.

Withdrawal Policy: Once a student accepts their offer/enrolls on a study abroad program, the spot will be considered filled and will not be offered to another student. Students who withdraw from UBP Global are responsible for non-recoverable costs including the Global Programs Administrative Fee. Your student account will be assessed charges to cover any/all amounts that Kenan-Flagler UBP Global programs has committed or paid on your behalf and are non-recoverable at the time of withdrawal. Such costs include, housing, meals, transportation and any expenses that may be associated with faculty and support participation on your program (if applicable).

Do you have a valid passport? If yes, check your passport’s expiration date to ensure that your passport is valid at least 6 months after your program’s scheduled end date. If not, you’ll need to submit a passport renewal application.

Do you need to apply for a passport (first time or renew)? If yes, we recommend that you get started on your passport application right away as you’ll need time to collect documents like your birth certificate to include as part of your application. For complete instructions click here.

Will I need immigration documents? U.S. citizens can enter Ireland visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. If you are accepted into this program, you will NOT be required to acquire a visa as your program is approximately 30 days in length.
