Thailand: Mahidol University International College

Mahidol University International College (MUIC) is situated on Mahidol University’s Salaya Campus in Nakhon Pathom Province, located in the western outskirts of Bangkok. MUIC has five buildings that house classrooms, laboratories, offices, a library, an auditorium, meeting rooms, studios, and other facilities serving the educational needs of students.

MUIC offers a wide range of exciting extracurricular opportunities with over 30 student clubs. Students can explore and apply for club membership during the Club Exposition at the start of each trimester.

As a cosmopolitan port city with a population of over 8 million, Bangkok is known for its nightlife and shopping. Mass transit makes it easy to travel around and explore – MUIC’s campus in Salaya is 30-45 minutes from Bangkok’s city center. Tourism is the city’s main revenue generator, but Bangkok also has a substantial trade industry. The average temperature is 90 degrees year-round.

Mahidol University International College (MUIC) offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate degree programs designed to develop a new generation of academics, international managers and industry professionals. There are 17 undergraduate majors, including five in the Arts, eight in the Sciences and four in Business Administration, along with 22 minors.

MUIC currently serves approximately 3,220 students, with a full and part-time faculty (60 percent of whom are foreign nationals) that represents a wide range of international expertise in all subject areas. The student/teacher ratio is 28:1.

MUIC operates on a trimester system. Each trimester has 12 weeks of lecture classes and one week of final exams. Lecture classes are scheduled every day between 8:00 and 18:00 hrs. Classes usually take place for two hours/day twice per week. Each course is normally worth 4 MUIC credits.

This program also fulfills the Experiential Education requirement or the High Impact Experience requirement (if you are under the new IDEAs curriculum). Full-time enrollment in this program is defined as a minimum of 12 UNC credit hours.

Withdrawal Policy: Once a student accepts their offer/enrolls on a study abroad program, the spot will be considered filled and will not be offered to another student. Students who withdraw from UBP Global are responsible for non-recoverable costs including the Global Programs Administrative Fee. Your student account will be assessed charges to cover any/all amounts that Kenan-Flagler UBP Global programs has committed or paid on your behalf and are non-recoverable at the time of withdrawal. Such costs include, housing, meals, transportation and any expenses that may be associated with faculty and support participation on your program (if applicable).

Funding your global program

Scholarships & Financial Aid

This program is eligible for the Phillips Ambassadors Scholarship (UNC-CH undergraduates only).

The Undergraduate Business Program offers both merit and financial-need-based scholarships to support our students who wish to study abroad.

If you are applying for a Kenan-Flagler Global Programs Scholarship, please note that average merit scholarship amounts for this program range between $500-$1500.
If you are applying for a financial-need scholarship, the specific scholarship amount will be determined by supplemental UNC Office of Scholarships and Student Aid information.

Study abroad scholarship applications are embedded in the global program application and award amounts will be communicated with program decisions.

Travel Documents

Do you have a valid passport? If yes, check your passport’s expiration date to ensure that your passport is valid at least 6 months after your program’s scheduled end date. If not, you’ll need to submit a passport renewal application.

Do you need to apply for a passport (first time or renew)? If yes, we recommend that you get started on your passport application right away, as you’ll need time to collect documents like your birth certificate to include as part of your application. For complete instructions, click here.

Will I need immigration documents? If you are accepted into this program, you will need to travel to a Thai consulate/embassy in the United States to obtain a visa permitting you to study in Thailand. For this appointment, you will need your passport in hand along with other documentation from our office and the host university office.
