  • Overview

    Kenan-Flagler Global Programs (KFBS semester exchanges, KFBS summer programs, and KFBS short-term immersions) are ONLY open to students who have been admitted to the major or minor Undergraduate Business Program. Pre-business students and non-business majors and minors are not eligible to apply to Kenan-Flagler Global Programs. Admission status to the Undergraduate Business Program will be verified for all applicants.

    An international internship in Hong Kong offers students the opportunity to work and learn in a non-US environment. This summer experience, offered through Global Academic Ventures (a third party provider), helps students apply their classroom teachings to a work environment. Students participating in this program will gain first-hand knowledge of the behaviors, customs, and norms of another culture. Intern abroad – experience global business. Sixty - 70% of the internship placements are in Fortune 500 or 1000 companies. In summer 2016 Global Academic Ventures hosted and placed 95 interns in Hong Kong.

    Program participants will work Monday – Friday for 8 weeks. Hours worked will be based on the company's normal working hours.

  • Program Terms and Dates

    Program dates are generally as follows: early June to early August

    ‚ÄčSummer 2019 dates are June 7, 2019 – August 3, 2019

    This program runs from June 7 - August 3, 2018. Students will participate in orientation in Hong Kong from June 8. Program participants will begin their internships on June 10. The internships last for 8 weeks.

    Round 1* Applicants:

    • Round 1 application deadline for Summer 2019: November 15, 2018
    • Notification for Round 1 applicants begins: December 14, 2018
    Round 2 Applicants:
    • Round 2 application deadline for Summer 2019: January 17, 2019
    • Notification for Round 2 applicants begins: February 1, 2019

    *Students who submit their application in the Round 1 application cycle have greater scholarship opportunities and increased chances of being accepted to their preferred program.

  • Academics

    Credit information for KFBS students

    Students who participate in the International Internship Program through UNC Kenan-Flagler, will be enrolled in BUSI 493Internship Credit course. This 3.0 business elective credit course includes submission of reflective activities assigned by UNC and a written evaluation from a supervisor which will be included as a component of the student's grade. In addition to earning business elective credit hours, this program also fulfills Experiential Education and you will earn points towards the Kenan-Flagler Global Inclusive Leadership Initiative.« PrevNext »
  • Program Provider

    This program is run through a third party provider, Global Academic Ventures.

    Global Academic Ventures' Hong Kong office provides management and support to students for the duration of the program. Fully trained local staff will be the principal contact for students on issues of housing, safety, and provide information as needed.

    In addition to internship placement, the following are included as part of your program fees: shared accommodation; breakfast on first 4 mornings of program, airport transfer if you arrive within allocated time window, welcome dinner in Hong Kong, three catch up dinners throughout the 8 weeks, day trip to Victoria Peak, a ride on the Star Ferry and a farewell dinner.

  • Housing

    Housing is included in the program fees. Students will share double occupancy dorm type facilities in Hong Kong. There is limited internet connectivity at accommodation.

  • Student Life

    The opportunity to spend 8 weeks living and working in one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse cities in the world doesn't come along often. This program not only gives you the opportunity to work in a non-US environment, but it also will help you expand your network, since students from other universities across the US will also be participating. You will develop skills you can include on your resume and articulate in an interview during your future full time job searchyou will learn how to work in a diverse environment, adapt to change, have proven flexibility and mobility, integrate into a cross cultural team, and more!
