As students in an exchange program, GLOBE participants pay UNC tuition and fees at the regular in-state or out-of-state rate and study abroad insurance to UNC for the terms they are abroad. Students are billed a $700 Undergraduate Business Study Abroad fee each semester while abroad.
The GLOBE study trip fees, room, board, books, personal expenses and airfare are paid directly to the host university or independently.
All UNC students selected for the GLOBE program are awarded a total of $5,000 in scholarships to help offset the costs of participation. Students will receive $2,500 for the fall semester spent in Copenhagen and $2,500 for the spring semester in Hong Kong.
Additional Funding Resources
The UNC Center for Global Initiatives manages a resource called EMBARK Carolina, which lists a variety of different funding opportunities.
There are UNC cashier billed expenses and out of pocket expenses associated with participation on this program. UNC tuition and fees, health insurance, and the study abroad fee are all billed through the UNC Cashier’s office. All other expenses are billed through the Copenhagen Business School, Chinese University of Hong Kong, or paid as incurred (such as personal expenses, books and supplies, etc) and can be higher or lower depending on a student’s personal situation and habits.
