BUSI 401 In Barcelona

BUSI 401 In Barcelona will be a condensed version of BUSI 401: Management and Corporate Communication with classes taking place 4 days per week, 3-4 hours per day. BUSI 401 is a required course in the business major curriculum, and also fulfills the Communication Beyond Carolina requirement of the Ideas in Action curriculum. This is an official graded Kenan-Flagler course; letter grades will be factored into your UNC GPA. The program is capped at 30 students to provide a personalized experience that allows for individual participation, team projects, and assignment feedback.  Final grades will result from the combination of lectures, field trips, guest speakers, projects, readings, and presentations that will be prepared by the students inside and outside of the classroom.

This program also fulfills the High-Impact Experience requirement of the Ideas In Action curriculum.

Housing is included in the program and arranged by Barcelona SAE. Participants will be assigned to shared accommodation in a student residence hall or shared apartment. All program participants will be in the same residence building along with the faculty lead, Dr. Haugen.

Barcelona is well connected by public transport, and the city is very walkable. The typical commute in Barcelona is around 45 minutes using public transportation from your housing to the classroom; it may be a bit more or less. Most accommodations will be in double rooms with students of the same gender (biological sex). You may opt to pay a $300/month supplement for a single room (if available on a first-come, first-served basis). Please note that single rooms cannot be guaranteed.

More information about housing will be shared after students are admitted and officially enroll in the program.

Withdrawal Policy: Once a student accepts their offer to study abroad, the spot will be considered filled and will not be offered to another student. Students who withdraw after accepting an offer must email UBP Global Programs at ubpglobal@kenan-flagler.unc.edu stating in full the reasons for the late withdrawal. Students who withdraw from UBP Global administered programs are responsible for non-recoverable costs to the provider. The cost of withdrawing can be substantial, depending on when the student withdraws as the on-the-ground provider incurs costs in preparation for the program. Your cashier’s account will be assessed an additional charge to cover any/all amounts that Kenan-Flagler UBP Global programs have committed or paid on your behalf and are non-recoverable at the time of withdrawal, such costs may include, housing, meals, transportation, and faculty or staff compensation.

If applying for a financial-need scholarship, the specific scholarship amount will be determined by supplemental UNC Office of Scholarships and Student Aid information.

Will I need immigration documents? Spain is a party to the Schengen Agreement. Starting in 2026, U.S. citizens will be required to have the European Travel Information and Authorization System authorization to travel to Spain. If you are accepted into this program, you will be required to independently acquire this authorization.
