Q: Do I need tickets?
Tickets are not needed for the ceremony. Our ceremony will take place in the Dean E. Smith Center; therefore, we are not limiting the number of guests graduates invite.
Q: Where will the reception and ceremony take place?
A: The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 7, promptly at 3:00 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center. All guests should enter through Entrance A, by the front of the Koury Natatorium.
The reception will take place at the McColl Building immediately following the ceremony; beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. It will consist of light refreshments served from several food stations inside McColl Building. Seating will be available throughout McColl. A meal will not be served. The McColl building is located just up the hill and within walking distance from the Dean E. Smith Center. When exiting the Smith Center, follow the set of stairs leading up the hill towards the Kenan Center (building on your right) and follow the brick sidewalk to the McColl building. Unfortunately there is no transportation from the Dean Smith Center to McColl Building.
Q: What time will the doors open at the Dean E. Smith Center?
A: Guests of graduates may begin entering the Dean Smith Center at 2:45 p.m. through Entrance A for general seating. Another UNC programs’ ceremony will take place in the Dean Smith Center immediately prior to the Undergrad Business ceremony; therefore, in respect for their ceremony, we ask guests not to enter the Smith Center prior to the conclusion of their ceremony. Undergraduate Business staff will be located at Entrance A to allow guests access when appropriate.
Q: Will parking be available?
A: Parking is free and will be available in the Kenan-Flagler Business School parking garage or at any of the parking lots around the Dean E. Smith Center. If you plan to park at the business school, parking is available in the business school deck (garage) only. Please do not park in the Kenan-McColl visitors’ lot as this is a reserved lot up the hill that requires permits. Cars without permits will be ticketed.
Guests attending the reception should take the business deck elevator to the 6th floor and come across the breezeway to the business school. Guests may also be dropped off in front of the McColl building or Dean E. Smith Center.
Q: Will disability parking be available at the business school?
A: Disability parking is available in the business school deck, as well as a few spots in the front of McColl Building. (Please do not park in the Kenan-McColl visitors’ lot as this is a reserved lot that requires permits. Cars without permits will be ticketed.) Guests may also be dropped off in front of the building.
Q: Can I reserve a disability parking spot in advance?
A: We are not able to reserve parking spots for guests in advance of the commencement events. There will be ample disability parking for guests who need it.
Q: Will disability seating be available during the ceremony?
A: The first 6 rows of Section 124, Section 125 and Section 126 of the Dean Smith Center will be reserved for disability guests on a first-come basis. All disability guests will enter through Entrance A and take the elevator to the left of the entrance to level 1 where a volunteer will direct guests to disability seating. We ask that no more than 1 family member/caregiver sit with each disability guest. In fairness to other guests, your entire party will not be permitted to sit in the disability seating area.
Q: How long will the ceremony last?
A: The ceremony begins promptly at 3:00 p.m. and will end no later than 5:00 p.m.
Q: Will graduates’ names be called?
Q: Will graduates receive their diploma?
A: No. Graduates will be presented with a certificate. Diplomas are mailed by the Registrar’s Office in August to graduates’ permanent addresses.
