Bridging the GAAP

Bridging the GAAP: Masterminds in Accounting

Bridging the GAAP invites aspiring accounting professionals from four-year institutions across the region to step into a high-impact learning experience at UNC Kenan-Flagler. Through an immersive case competition, the program equips students, especially those not already connected to UNC or partner firms, with practical skills, professional networks, and a clear line of sight to the UNC Master of Accounting (MAC) Program.

This program is for you if you’re

  • An undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior in Fall 2026
  • Enrolled at a four-year college or university in the region
  • Maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Interested in discovering how accounting connects to broader business careers — even if you’re still exploring majors
  • Current UNC-Chapel Hill undergrads are not eligible but are welcome to participate in our MAC Mentorship Program

Application Requirements

Our streamlined application is designed to help us get to know you. You will need to provide the following:

  • A current resume
  • A short statement of interest explaining why this opportunity excites you
  • An optional endorsement from a faculty member or advisor who knows you well

What to expect:

  • Selected students are placed into teams and paired with an assigned firm coach

  • Before arriving on campus, teams will complete required virtual preparation, including case analysis, collaboration with their firm coach, and development and practice of their final presentation

  • Teams analyze a real-world accounting case developed by UNC MAC faculty, grounded in practical accounting and advisory scenarios and designed to assess both technical and professional skills

  • Teams present their recommendations during an immersive on-campus competition weekend in Chapel Hill

  • Presentations are evaluated by UNC MAC faculty and staff, with top-performing teams earning recognition and awards. Firm sponsors coach teams throughout the process but do not design or judge the case
