Admission to the UNC Kenan-Flagler full-time MBA program requires the completion of our online application.
The application consists of the following components; additional details are available within the application itself and in our FAQs:
The personal information includes contact information, education and detailed employment history.
We typically expect the resume to be one page in length, two pages maximum. Include educational and employment history with titles and dates, in reverse chronological order.
We require transcripts of all academic work completed at the baccalaureate/undergraduate and graduate level. Unofficial transcripts may be uploaded to the online application for the purposes of application review, with official transcripts required upon admission and matriculation.
International candidates must have a college-level education equivalent to an American undergraduate or baccalaureate degree (the same as a first university degree). Generally this is a 4-year degree. There are a number of universities around the world that offer 3-year undergraduate programs. If you received a bachelor's degree upon completion of one of these 3-year undergraduate programs, you are eligible to apply to our program.
International applicants are required to submit copies of both your academic record and the diploma, degree certificate or other document indicating the date and conferral of your degree. If the original language of the academic record and diploma is not English, a certified literal (not interpretive) English translation must accompany the original document. If a certified copy of the original transcript is submitted, it must be certified by the institution from which the degree was received.
We require the GMAT or GRE from all applicants. Our school code for GMAT and GRE is 5046.
TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic is required for applicants for whom English is not their native language. Our school code for these tests is 5816. Applicants do not need to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or PTE score if:
- They earned an undergraduate or graduate degree at a U.S. college or university.
- Their total education was conducted in English in a native English-speaking country.
- They received an undergraduate degree or graduate degree from a university in Hong Kong.
- They earned an undergraduate degree or graduate degree from a university in India. We will request test scores from some Indian candidates as needed.
We have one required essay and three optional essays. The essays for the 2015-2016 application season are:
- Essay One (Required)
Please describe your short and long term goals post-MBA. Explain how your professional experience has shaped these goals, why this career option appeals to you, and how you arrived at the decision that now is the time and the MBA is the appropriate degree. (500 words maximum)
- Essay Two (Optional)
What personal qualities or life experiences distinguish you from other applicants? How do these qualities or experiences equip you to contribute to UNC Kenan-Flagler? (300 words maximum)
- Essay Three (Optional)
If your standardized test scores are low, or if you have not had coursework in core business subjects (calculus, microeconomics, statistics, financial accounting), please tell us how you plan to prepare yourself for the quantitative rigor of the MBA curriculum. (300 words maximum)
- Essay Four (Optional)
Is there any other information you would like to share that is not presented elsewhere in the application? (300 words maximum)
The Admissions Committee requires two professional recommendations, preferably from supervisors. Applicants designate their recommenders within the application which triggers an e-mail directly to the recommender with specific instructions and a link to the recommendation form. Recommendations can be submitted by your recommenders up to 10 business days after the application deadline for the round in which you are applying.
All candidates who are offered admission to the MBA program will have a completed admissions interview on file.
Beginning in the 2015-2016 application season, the UNC Kenan-Flagler full-time MBA program will offer two windows of opportunity to interview. During the Campus Open Interview Season, candidates are able to self-register for an interview to occur between September 8, 2015 and October 29, 2015. Candidates who do not interview during the Campus Open Interview Season will be considered for an interview after their application has been submitted.
Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the Campus Open Interview Season since this is the only way to 100% guarantee an interview. On-campus interviews can be combined with our Campus Visit Program—an excellent way to get to know the UNC Kenan-Flagler community and MBA program. More information about registration for on-campus interviews and visits can be found here.
Residency Form (only if NC resident)
If you believe you qualify for in-state residency for tuition purposes, please review the Residency Information page for detailed information.
