Supporting Material
Transcript Guidelines
- Your name, exactly as it appears on the application, should be used on all supporting documents.
- Must be original documents authorized by the academic institution and stamped or embossed with the official seal.
- For international applicants, photocopies are acceptable if the institution (or an embassy or consulate) has certified them.
- They must be made from the original document
- Each page must be officially verified as authentic
- Be sealed in an envelope by the official. The envelope must have the signature and title of the university, embassy or consular officer across the back.
- Official academic records must be in the original language. English versions of documents that interpret or translate marks, grades or degrees into U.S. equivalents are not acceptable.
- If the original language is not English, then you must also provide a literal translation from the issuing institution.
- Translations from the embassy or consulate of the country, or its designated agent, are acceptable if the institution will not provide a translation.
International Applicants
TOEFL or IELTS Exceptions
Applicants do not need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score if:
- You earned an undergraduate degree or graduate degree at a U.S. college or university
- Your total education was conducted in English in a native English-speaking country
Special Interview Arrangements
We strongly encourage international students to come to Chapel Hill for a personal interview. Interviews are by invitation only. However, if you are based outside of the U.S., and are planning a visit to campus, we will do our best to inform you of your interview status before you schedule your visit. Contact mba_interview@unc.edu to find out if you are approved for an interview prior to scheduling your on-campus visit.
Re-applicants
For applicants admitted in the previous academic year:
- Complete a Re-Open Form.

- Mail or fax the completed form to UNC Kenan-Flagler
- Submit Part I of the online application, including the US $140 application fee
- No new essays are required
- You do not need to repeat the personal interview
- You are encouraged to submit one new recommendation
For previous applicants NOT admitted:
- Complete the entire online application (Part I and Part II) for the current year (including new essays) and submit with the US $140 application fee
- Send two new letters of recommendation
- We may choose to use your interview from the prior year. You may or may not be invited to interview again this year
- New transcripts not required, unless you have taken additional courses
- New GMAT or TOEFL scores not required, unless you have retaken a test and want us to consider a new score
Dual Degree Applicants
- Dual degrees are offered for:
- City and Regional Planning : MBA/MRP, three years of study
- Law : MBA/JD, four years of study, 74 semester hours in law and 51.5 semester hours at the Business School
- Information and Library Science : MBA/MSIS, three years of study
- Public Health : MBA/MHA, three years of study
- Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke
- Public Policy at Duke
- You must apply and be admitted separately to each program.
- For each dual degree, students complete the required first year in one program, and then complete the required first year of the other program during the next year
- The remainder of the curriculum is a prescribed number of elective courses from the two programs
