UNC Kenan-Flagler Full-time MBA Dual Degrees & Certificate Programs

MBA students may pursue a dual degree that combines their business education with studies in six of UNC's highly regarded graduate schools as well as two programs at Duke University. The MBA Program will also consider other non-formal dual degree pursuits, provided both admissions offices are aware of and agree with the dual degree.

All of the dual degree programs allow you to shave a year off of the time it would normally take to pursue the two degrees individually.

  • City and Regional Planning – The Department of City and Regional Planning at UNC Chapel Hill has been educating planners since 1946.
  • Environment – The Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University's goal is to educate students regarding environment challenges found in today´s society such as climate, energy, ecosystem management, conservation, and human health.
  • Information and Library Science – Currently ranked #1 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report; SILS consistently takes a leadership role in today's ever-changing information and library science landscape.
  • Law – UNC Law's student body is among the most highly credentialed and intellectually diverse in America.
  • Medicine – The School of Medicine strives to be the leading public medical school by achieving excellence in patient care, education, and research.
  • Pharmacy – As one of the nation’s oldest pharmacy programs, the Eshelman School of Pharmacy aims to provide the innovation and academic excellence necessary for the advancement of health care.
  • Public Health – The nationally ranked UNC's School of Public Health draws students and faculty from across North Carolina and around the world.
  • Public Policy – The School of Public Policy at Duke University is engaged in understanding and seeking solutions to local, national and global policy issues.

How to apply

You must apply and be admitted separately to each program.

Requirements

  • First year: Complete the required courses in one program.  Defer admission in the other program.
  • Second year: Complete the required first year of the other program.
  • Joint year(s) of study: Complete graduation requirements for both programs through completion of elective credits/courses across programs.
  • All dual degree students, regardless of selected program(s), must pay MBA tuition and fees for at least three (3) full-time semesters.
  • Dual degree students will be charged MBA tuition and fees during the fall semester of their first year of joint year of study (following completion of the first year MBA core) regardless of the allocation of credit hours across the two degree programs.  Tuition and fees associated with the other program will apply during the spring semester.

Certificate Programs

Certificate programs are available for those MBA students who wish to seek additional experience in another discipline without pursuing a second degree. These programs carry academic credit and are hosted by various programs or academic units across campus.
