While our program formats deliver the same degree, and share the same curriculum and same faculty, they do so under different schedules. Classes for the on-campus format start once a year, in May; online students can start in either December or June*. (Note: Students starting in December will attend a required leadership immersion in early December, then begin classes in early January. Students starting in June will attend a required leadership immersion in late June, then begin classes in early July.)

UNC Accounting Online MAC - Coursework

The on-campus format is taught in two parts:

(1) a May-July summer session focused on introductory requirements, followed by

(2) four seven-week modules running from August to the following April where students take core courses, specialized tax or audit concentration courses, and elective courses.

In addition to the coursework, on-campus students participate in two immersion events focused on employer recruiting: a Recruiting and Leadership Immersion in June and an Interview Immersion in late-September.

The online format has a variable schedule that you set for yourself. You’ll need to take certain introductory, core, and concentration-focused courses in a specific order, but most electives can be positioned as you see fit across the year.

Most students will be able to complete the curriculum in 15 to 24 months; however, you can extend your studies up to a 36-month maximum. It is important to note that most courses are not available in every quarter; you’ll need to be mindful of this as you plan your studies.

In addition to the online coursework, you will attend one Leadership Immersion in either late June (if starting in June) or early December (if starting in December) in Chapel Hill. If you're participating in the formal recruiting process, you'll also be required to attend a Meet The Firms Immersion in June and an on-campus Interview Immersion in late-September during your final year in the program. Lastly, online students may be able to incorporate an internship at a firm’s office that runs from January to March.
