Career Services Overview

Launching a career search is much easier with the staff and resources of the Career Management Center (CMC) to support you.

One-on-one Counseling

Getting started on your career search requires that you have a solid, workable plan of action. Meeting with an CMC director, career search experts in most MBA functional fields, will get your career on the right path. CMC directors work closely with MBA recruiters in the same functional fields. Knowledge gained from the employers is shared with the students, helping to make them top candidates for their companies of interest.

Peer Counseling Program

An integral part of a student's experience at UNC Kenan-Flagler is the Peer Counseling Program. Run and managed by CMC, this group of top-notch second-year MBAs critiques resumes, conducts mock interviews and provides student-to-student job search advice. The PC Program ranks at the top of each student's list of "most valuable" resources at UNC.

Group Training Sessions

Regular training sessions on job search basics provide valuable, useful information on preparing yourself for the MBA career search. CMC delivers and/or helps to organize on the following topics:

  • Writing an effective MBA resume
  • Recruiter correspondence
  • Interviewing
  • Salary negotiations
  • Job search strategies
  • Preparing for a successful internship
  • Marketing yourself and your summer experience
  • How to work a career fair
Group training sessions offer an ideal forum for idea-sharing among your peers, while learning from the CMC director how to best prepare and present yourself to employers.

Career Club Workshops

Each student-run career club delivers workshops and provides valuable career search support. Topics range from case interviewing to creating a back-up plan for your career search. Recruiters work closely with career club leaders. Oftentimes, the clubs will arrange practice interviews for their members with volunteers from recruiting companies. Utilizing club resources is an excellent way to build on your job-search skill set.

Alumni Assistance

UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni are committed to helping our MBAs prepare for their careers. Our Alumni Career Advisors prove community is a core value of our program by providing advice and assistance with everything from a resume critique to a job lead.
