Professor of Finance
Elena Simintzi’s research focuses on labor and finance, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Her research spans labor economics and finance, with a focus on pay inequality within firms, the effects of related policies and the consequences of technological change. She examines how new technologies are adopted by firms and how they reshape jobs, wages and workplace organization, offering insights relevant to debates on innovation, productivity, and labor markets.
Dr. Simintzi teaches corporate finance across the MBA programs, masters programs and Undergraduate Business Program. She serves as the PhD Finance Coordinator and teaches in the PhD Program.
Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics. It has also informed public debate, with features in Harvard Business Review and coverage by major media outlets such as The New York Times, The Economist and CNN Business.
She is a research fellow at the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) and a research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI).
Prior to joining UNC Kenan-Flagler, Dr. Simintzi was on the faculty at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.
She received her PhD in Finance from London Business School and her M.Sc. in economics and finance from Warwick Business School at the University of Warwick.
