Paul Friga researches best practices in strategy, problem-solving and project management in consulting, and the transformation of higher education.

He teaches courses in management consulting and strategy. He is the director of the area of emphasis in consulting in the Undergraduate Business Program (UBP).

He is the former director of the STAR (Student Teams Achieving Results) program and has led Global Immersion Electives for UBP and MBA students to China, India, UAE and Switzerland.

At UNC, he received the Chapman Family Award for distinguished teaching of undergraduate students and the PhD Teaching Award during his doctoral studies. When he served on the faculty of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, he received the Trustee Teaching Award and Innovative Teaching Award.

Dr. Friga previously worked as a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers and McKinsey & Company. He is the author “The McKinsey Mind” (McGraw-Hill, 2001) and “The McKinsey Engagement” (McGraw-Hill, 2008). His books, which have been translated in 10 languages, are used as consulting curriculum at many business schools across the globe.

Dr. Friga has written over 20 book chapters and articles in leading journals, such as The Academy of Management Learning and Education, Entrepreneurship Theory and Action, and for The Chronicle of Higher Education and InsideHigherEd.

He has consulted for Fortune 100, mid-size and entrepreneurial companies, universities and nonprofit organizations.  He delivers strategy workshops for the U.S. military, including the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, U.S. Navy and Veterans Affairs.

Dr. Friga is a senior consultant for the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. He has conducted strategic planning projects and retreats for institutions, including the College of Arts and Sciences and over 50 units at UNC-Chapel Hill.

He is a board member of the Educational Foundation at UNC, Carolina Alumni and Core Education.He formerly served as trustee of Saint Francis University and board chair of Saints Francis and Clare Church.

He has earned CPA and CMA designations.

He received his PhD and MBA (Beta Gamma Sigma) from UNC Kenan-Flagler. He graduated from Saint Francis University magna cum laude with a double degree in management and accounting. He has earned CPA and CMA designations.
