Daniel Sands’ research and teaching interests center on strategic management.
Dr. Sands focuses on how factors outside the boundaries of the firm can affect the production and distribution of value in markets. He addresses strategic questions of value creation and capture and disentangles ways in which economic and social forces affect market outcomes.
His award-winning research has been published in leading academic journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy and Strategy Science. His work has been featured in more than 100 media outlets around the world, including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Frankfurter Allgemeine, The JoongAng and The Times.
Dr. Sands teaches courses related to strategy, organizations and entrepreneurship.
Outside of academia, he has served in the military for nearly two decades and remains active in the U.S. Army Reserve. He holds the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Dr. Sands received his PhD from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University, his MA from Columbia University and his BSBA and BA from the University of Arizona.
