The evolution of our Alumni Council

Our alumni are passionate about UNC Kenan-Flagler and are our best brand ambassadors. To benefit from their insights and commitment, we created the Alumni Council in 2006. It began as an advisory group to the dean, meeting twice a year in Chapel Hill. With an average of 23 members, the council provided input and advice to the dean and the advancement team on topics ranging from the international readiness of students to annual giving to admissions.

As the needs of the School and the alumni community evolved, the Alumni Council transformed into a working group which has grown and formed four working committees: admissions, chapter and volunteer management, giving and new alumni engagement. This new working group format increases engagement opportunities for a larger number of alumni while providing support for the School’s efforts, including a mix of ongoing issues and one-time efforts.

The 2015-16 Alumni Council committees are working on committee initiatives that include (but are not limited to):

Admissions: Offering support related to alumni referrals, company information sessions, corporate sponsorship of candidate travel and communication with prospective students.

Chapter and volunteer management: Developing and refining a chapter playbook and creation of a sponsorship guide for chapters and chapter profiles.

Giving: Providing support for the School’s 2016 Day of Giving event and matching gifts, and increasing our alumni giving percentage and corporate campaigns.

New alumni engagement: Improving the database information of new alumni, developing an exit interview process for graduating students and improving messaging to students and new alumni.

Committees hold conference calls throughout the year to discuss the initiatives they are working on and track their progress.

Additional changes to the Alumni Council include an open application process for all UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni and the creation of committee chairs, an executive committee and a vice chair.

We encourage all alumni to visit the Alumni Council website to view a list of current members and their roles and responsibilities. Please reach out to Alumni Council members to discuss your thoughts and concerns. We hope you will consider applying for membership to the Alumni Council.
