UNC Investment Management Club (for MBA students)

The UNC Investment Management Club serves MBA students passionate about investing and interested in pursuing a career in investment management.

Our club is focused on:

  • Developing students into leading investment management professionals, by providing training and recruiting support
  • Promoting and growing the investment management network at UNC by fostering relationships between students, alumni and enhancing relationships with investment management firms
  • Attracting top-tier investment management talent to the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Program

Investment Management Club members are passionate about pursuing a career in the industry. UNC Kenan-Flagler has one of the leading alumni networks in the investment management industry. Our industry partnerships and alumni provide students with networking and career building initiatives in addition to learning opportunities. Our key offerings include weekly club meetings (known as CareerLabs), the Fall career trek to New York City, Boston, Chicago and Charlotte, guest speaker events as well as collaborating on the Alpha Challenge and student-managed funds.

Investment Management is defined as any role that involves investment management of financial assets for institutions or its clients. Roles include but not limited to: Buy-side and sell-side research, private equity, private wealth management, sales and trading, asset allocator roles, and investment consultant roles.

Shannon Wulff

President

Shannon Wulff

Shannon Wulff is President of the Investment Management Club, Program manager for the Fundamental Investing Practicum, Sector Head-Technology for the AIM Student managed investment fund, and an MBA Mentor for Smart Women in Securities the UNC Chapter.

Most recently, Shannon worked as a Summer Equity Research Intern with Artisan partners PP.  In the Spring of 2023, she was an Equity Research Intern with CJS Securities.  She graduated from Wofford College where she was also the team captain for their NCAA Division 1 Women’s Lacrosse team.

 

 

 

 

 

Daniel Miller

Vice President, Credit Research

Daniel Miller

Dan Miller is the Vice President of Credit Research for the Investment Management Club and co-Portfolio Manager of the AIM Global Perspectives Fund at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Before graduate school, Dan was a mutual fund research analyst at Fidelity Investments, in the 401k division. Prior to this, he was a billing analyst in Fidelity’s clearing and custody division.

During the summer of 2023, Dan interned on the High Yield Credit Research team at Thrivent Asset Management in Minneapolis, MN, covering high yield bonds and leveraged loans for 30+ issuers in the food & beverage sector. He received a BA in French from Colgate University and is a CFA charterholder.

 

 

Daniel Byerley

Vice President, Alternative Investments

Daniel Byerley

Daniel Byerley is Vice President of Alternative Investments for the Investment Management Club at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Dan is highly engaged within the alternative investment and entrepreneurial community at UNC. In the Summer of 2023, Dan interned with ProcessBarron, a portfolio company of Carousel Capital, with a focus on developing the 2-year strategic growth plan. His true passion lies in challenging the status quo, delivering transformation change, and creating value for stakeholders.

Prior to business school, Dan held operations, strategy, and business development roles at Hussmann, a global leader in commercial refrigeration equipment and services, where he was nominated as “Top 15 Up and Coming Leaders” across 6,000 employees. Dan received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with honors distinctions from Clemson University in 2016.

 

 

Daniel Casale

Vice President, Private Wealth Managment

Daniel Casale

Originally from upstate New York, Daniel attended East Carolina University for undergrad and was commissioned in the U.S. Army in 2015. He served in many roles in Europe, the National Capital Region, and North Carolina. He left the military in 2022 to pursue his MBA and immediately joined the Investment Management Club. Focusing on recruiting for private wealth management, Daniel accepted an offer with J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank for a summer associate role in New York City.

In his free time, Daniel enjoys spending time with his dog Bear, working out, reading, and cooking Italian food.

John Wierman

Vice President, Private Wealth Management

John Wierman

John Wierman is a Vice President – Private Wealth Management of the Investment Management Club and Head of Risk Management for the Global Perspectives Fund at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Prior to graduate school, John was an Investment Banking Analyst at Wells Fargo, as well as a Development Manager at Driven Brands. In the spring of 2023, he interned with Morgan Creek Capital Management in preparation for spending his summer with Goldman Sachs in Atlanta, GA, where he worked as a Private Wealth Management Summer Associate. He attained his BA in Economics from Davidson College and is originally from Winston-Salem, NC.

 

Kasturi Bramhane

Vice President, International Students

Kasturi Bramhane

Kasturi Bramhane is the Vice President – International Students for the Investment Management Club and focuses on Asset Allocation & Risk Management for the Applied Investment Management class. In her first year of MBA, her Credit Team was placed at the winning position in the 2022 Alpha Challenge, pitching Entegris. In Summer 2023, she interned with Unum in Chattanooga, TN. She focused on investment grade and high yield credit research at Unum. Prior to graduate school, Kasturi worked for Cairn Oil & Gas in both management and technical roles to increase the crude oil production of the company. She graduated from The Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad with a B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering.

 

Bo Torbert

Vice President, Finance

Bo Torbert

Bo Torbert is the VP of Finance for the Investment Management Club at UNC’s Kenan – Flagler Business School. Prior to graduate school, Bo worked in the U.S. Senate in a variety of legislative capacities. In the spring of 2023, he interned for Brown Brothers Harriman in Charlotte, NC. Later that summer, he interned at State Street in Boston, MA. Bo graduated from Washington and Lee University with a BA in Global Politics. He is originally from Montgomery, AL.

UNC Finance Society (for undergraduate students)

The UNC Finance Society (UFS) is the premier student financial services organization sponsored by the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. The UFS offers undergraduate students interested in finance unique opportunities to develop the tools and skills needed to become a competent professional in today’s rapidly changing financial environment. Along with participating in educational and networking activities, students manage two equity portfolios and the Reynolds Fund.
