Programs MS in Management (MSM) Application Requirements

This page covers everything you need to apply to the UNC Kenan-Flagler Master of Science in Management (MSM): the application requirements, deadlines, and what happens after you apply. The program is open to all bachelor’s degree holders from accredited institutions, regardless of major, and no work experience is required.

Applications for the August 2027 class are open. Applying earlier improves your chances of a fellowship award.

Application deadlines: early, priority and final

The MSM has three types of application deadlines: early, priority and final. The earlier you apply, the higher your likelihood of receiving a fellowship award.

Early Deadline

Applying by the early deadline gives you the strongest chance at a fellowship award and the most time to prepare before classes begin. Open to all applicants.

Priority Deadline

Applying by the priority deadline is important because remaining fellowship awards are limited and decided competitively.

Final Deadline

The final deadline is your last chance to apply for the August 2027 class. Applications must be submitted by 11:59:59 p.m. ET on June 14, 2027.

Application Requirements

You will submit four items. The process is swift and straightforward, but it’s important that you invest effort in crafting a strong application.

  1. Unofficial transcripts. Records of all undergraduate coursework, including the institutions where you earned degrees, any transfer credits, and any other institutions where you took courses for credit. Only unofficial transcripts are required for the initial review.
  2. Two recommenders. Choose two people who know you well and can give honest feedback through a short online survey. Once you name them, we handle the outreach to make it easy for you.
  3.  Two 300-word essays. Your background and motivation matter—they make you unique. This two-part essay is your opportunity to share what sets you apart and how you will use your strengths to contribute to the classroom. This is also your chance to describe how building business acumen complements your credentials, supports your goals, and why the UNC Kenan-Flagler MS in Management Program is the right next step for you. Each part should be no more than 300 words. The average completion time is 15–20 minutes.
  4. Resume or LinkedIn profile, which includes educational, employment, and achievement history with dates.

What happens after your apply

When we review your application, we carefully consider your educational background, work experience, and life achievements. Our approach is holistic; we assess your entire application comprehensively rather than focusing on isolated sections. Every applicant to our program is unique and we look forward to meeting you.

Get interviewed: After reviewing applications, the MS in Management admissions committee selects finalists for virtual interviews. Applicants will receive an email to schedule their interview once their application is complete. Business attire is recommended.

Get a decision: Decisions are typically made as applications are reviewed. Remember, applying early maximizes opportunities for fellowship and financial aid.
