Leading and giving by example

Members of our Board of Visitors and giving societies share insights on all things UNC Kenan-Flagler.

Ritch Allison

Ritch Allison

On opportunity:

“I am a first-generation college graduate in my family. I was lucky enough to have great parents who were committed to education and lucky enough to grow up in the state of North Carolina, where I could experience an amazing and affordable business education. I feel a deep obligation to help others realize the great opportunities and learning that I was able to experience through UNC Kenan-Flagler. I give to UNC Kenan-Flagler because it changed my life and gave me the opportunity to be who I am today.”

– Ritch Allison (BSBA ’89, MBA ’95)

On global experiences:

“In today’s global economy, it is important that students are not just thinking domestically but internationally. I made a commitment to myself that when I succeeded financially, I would provide an opportunity for students to study abroad. It made me realize that I can truly have an impact on students’ lives, and they are so appreciative of it.”

– Michael Peterson (BSBA ’81, MBA ’87)

On diversity:

“One of the things that keeps me giving to this University is its commitment to bring together a diverse group of people from different socioeconomic backgrounds and small high schools. I came from a very small high school – and of course there are lots of people here from really big and prosperous school systems. If UNC didn’t have this commitment to this broader perspective, including appropriate selection and support of African Americans, I wouldn’t be here.”

– Joseph High (BSBA ’76)

On giving back:

“When people ask me to do something, my default is to say yes. If I can squeeze it in, I try to do it. For me, it’s an opportunity for me to give back to a university and school that really made a difference in the trajectory of my career.”

– Jan Davis (MBA ’79)

Jeff Tucker

On tradition:

“Everything I gained at UNC Kenan-Flagler was the result of someone else giving back to the School in some way. As alums, we’re really duty bound to continue that tradition. For me, giving back has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. UNC Kenan-Flagler changed my life in such a positive way, and that’s something for which I’m eternally grateful.”

– Jeff Tucker (MBA ’00)

In October 2015, members of The 1919 Society, Dudley Carroll Society, Board of Visitors, Alumni Council and Foundation Board of Directors came together for a special event celebrating their commitment and dedication to the School, complete with a performance by the UNC Tarpeggios a capella group.
