The Energy Club supports the academic experience and development of all students at UNC Kenan-Flagler interested in diverse aspects of the energy industry. The club works closely with the academic faculty, career management staff and other student leadership groups to organize educational events and conferences, case competitions and career treks to provide students with experiential learning and networking opportunities with industry professionals and alumni.

Nick Buczacki is a member of the MBA Class of 2023, concentrating in Corporate Finance and Energy. Before business school, he worked for two F500 mining companies in Florida and Wyoming. Originally from Pennsylvania, Nick earned a BS in mining engineering from Penn State in 2018. This summer, he will work on the origination team at his internship with NextEra Energy Resources.

Eliza Henderson is a member of the MBA Class of 2023, focusing on Energy and Corporate Finance. Before pursuing her MBA, she worked in origination at Cypress Creek Renewables and SolarCity. Eliza interned at Broad Reach Power last summer and is currently pursuing a Master in Environmental Management from Duke University. This summer, Eliza will cover energy during her internship on Piper Sandler’s Houston investment banking team. Eliza earned a BS in science, technology and international affairs from Georgetown University.

Elena Tamayo is a member of the MBA Class of 2023. Before pursuing her MBA, she worked in environmental risk analysis for energy companies and as a digital transformation advisor at the Colombian Presidency. Originally from Colombia, Elena earned a BA in political science and a MA in international public management from Sciences Po Paris.
Communications & Technology
Oliver Zafar is a member of the MBA Class of 2023, pursuing Corporate Finance, Real Estate and Energy concentrations. Before business school, Oliver worked at Amazon in the real estate team, JP Morgan in the custody and fund services division, and Louis Dreyfus Commodities as a P&L analyst covering biofuels and agricultural futures. Originally from New York, Oliver earned his BS in business finance at Ithaca College. This summer, Oliver will intern as an investment banking summer associate at Solomon Partners in the Infrastructure, Power and Renewables team.
Tim Leyden is a member of the MBA Class of 2023, concentrating in Corporate Finance and Energy. Before pursuing his MBA, Tim worked in the sustainability and energy team at JPMorgan Chase, where he focused on managing the firm’s energy operations and sourcing renewable electricity across approximately 5,000 real estate locations. He is originally from Westchester County, New York, and earned a BBA in finance and management information systems at Villanova University in 2016. Tim will work as an investment banking summer associate within the Emerging Growth & Regional Coverage (EGRC) group at Bank of America for this upcoming summer.
Parker Bly is a member of the MBA Class of 2023 s and is concentrating in Corporate Finance and Energy. Prior to business school, Parker was an engineer and operations manager for Kiewit Power Constructors where he worked on combined-cycle natural gas power plant construction projects. He has a BS in civil engineering from The University of Colorado at Boulder. This summer, Parker will be interning as a consultant at ScottMadden.

Iza Noor is a full-time MBA candidate in the UNC Kenan-Flagler Class of 2023. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Eliza moved to the United States two years ago. Iza obtained her B.Eng. in chemical engineering from McMaster University and has worked professionally in the energy industry for over six years. Her previous roles were in operations and project management at ExxonMobil, Suncor Energy and DTE Energy. Eliza also enjoys traveling, cooking crazy recipes and playing with her Maltese, named Louis.

Eason Warren is a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Class of 2023. Prior to business school, Eason worked in international tourism and held various roles in operations, including operations expert, COO and co-founder of an outdoor expedition provider in Southern Chile. Eason came to UNC Kenan-Flagler to pursue a career in renewable project development to help tackle the complexity that will come with the global energy transition.

Leon Horton, IV is a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Class of 2023, concentrating in Strategy and Energy. Before business school, he worked as legislative counsel for the Committee on Homeland Security in the U.S. House of Representatives. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Leon earned a BBA in finance from the University of Alabama and a J.D. from the Howard University School of Law. This summer, he will work as a finance intern for Phillips 66 at the global corporate headquarters in Houston.
Ian Harten is a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Class of 2023, focusing on Sustainable Finance and Energy. Before business school, he worked as a consultant for IBM Canada, where he gained experience in a wide array of industries, including integrated oil and gas, nuclear power and utilities. Ian previously studied at the University of Ottawa, and he has a master’s in the history of technology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Ian is a passionate advocate for renewable energy and environmental justice.
Brian Severson is a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Class of 2023, pursuing concentrations in Energy and Technology and Innovation Management. Prior to business school, he served eight years in the U.S. Army. Originally from Maryland, Brian earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from the United States Military Academy and a master’s in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Darby Casey is part of the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Class of 2023, concentrating in Energy and Real Estate. Prior to business school, she worked for a midstream energy company in Houston. Darby earned her BBA in finance and information systems from Hofstra University in 2017. This summer she will be interning at Duke Energy on the energy systems and storage team.
