Professional women commonly face a unique set of challenges as they rise to senior ranks compared to their male peers. Gender discrimination, stereotyping, dual career-family pressures, and the lack of equal opportunities in certain industries all play a role in challenging professional women in their transition from managing to leading. During this three-day women’s leadership program, you will learn the differences between leading and managing and how to successfully navigate this transition alongside other professional women. The lessons learned will help you evolve your decision-making and negotiating processes to teach you how to deliver and apply your insights to benefit your company. What’s more, you will empower yourself with practical business skills that will enhance your impact as a leader.

Approach of our Women in Business Program

The Women in Business: Transitioning to Leadership program will provide professional women with the information and skills necessary to transition to leadership. Techniques and best practices will be taught through the power of experience of leaders and participants. The program will focus on six key areas:

Faculty

Women in Business:  Transitioning to Leadership features several esteemed members of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School faculty. Listed below is a sample of the faculty and topics that are typically included in this program:

Sreedhari Desai, PhD, is an assistant professor of organizational behavior who tackles strategic problem solving and decision making in this program.

Elizabeth Dickinson, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor of management and corporate communication who discusses gender issues in the workplace.

Shimul Melwani, PhD, is an assistant professor of organizational behavior who focuses on the self and others awareness.

Mabel Miguel, PhD, is a professor  of organizational behavior who teaches how to understand and manage power, politics and influence.

Heidi Schultz, PhD, is a professor and director of management and corporate communication who discusses executive presence and storytelling in the workplace.

Location

This women’s leadership program is held at the Rizzo Conference Center, our world-class facility in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Rizzo Conference Center was designed to foster executive management development and education and is wired for business so we can integrate new technologies into our teaching methodologies.
