About the Center for Sustainable Enterprise

The Center for Sustainable Enterprise (CSE) at UNC Kenan-Flagler helps leaders learn how to bring profits to a triple bottom line.  A triple bottom line blends doing the right thing for people and the planet with business goals in ways that are well suited to growing mature markets and to moving into emerging markets.

The Aspen Institute’s survey, “Beyond Grey Pinstripes” ranks UNC Kenan-Flagler one of the top business schools in the world for education in this arena, with a No. 2 rank for course content. The CSE provides education, research, consulting and resources for students, business people and organizations.

What is Sustainable Enterprise?
Sustainable enterprise is a way of doing business that creates profit while avoiding harm to people and the planet. It measures success in terms of a "triple bottom line":

  • Financial profitability
  • Ecological integrity
  • Social equity

Developing sustainable business strategies relies on innovative analysis of market opportunities and identification of solutions that frequently "leapfrog" existing products, technologies, and business solutions.
