Choice at a Cost: Rethinking Healthcare Consumerism - Consumers across the U.S. are taking control of their healthcare like never before, using AI-powered health apps, purchasing pharmaceuticals directly from manufacturers, and turning to telehealth for a growing range of services. Companies old and new are putting more decisions directly in consumers' hands, even as rising costs strain what individuals, employers, and public programs can bear. This shift raises fundamental questions about healthcare in America: how much control should individuals have over their own care, who bears the cost of that control, and what does it mean for a system already under pressure? The conference brings together leaders across industry, academia, policy and employer health to examine the real tradeoffs between cost, quality, and access, and to ask whether healthcare consumerism is delivering genuine value or simply repackaging the same problems in a more convenient form.
