Czech Republic: Prague | UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School

Spend eight weeks working for a company in one of the most beautiful and engaging cities in the world on the international business internship in Prague. During this summer experience, you will apply the theories and concepts you’ve learned in class to an international working environment, learning and practicing the professional customs, behaviors and norms of another culture.

The skills you develop on this internship will transform you as a leader and give you a distinct competitive advantage in the job market. Along with practicing fundamental workplace skills, you will demonstrate that you can work in a diverse environment, adapt to change, be a flexible problem solver and integrate successfully into a diverse and cross-cultural team—all high-demand skills for today’s globally minded employers.

You will work Monday through Thursday for eight weeks at your placement company for 30-35 hours per week.

This program is run through EUSA, a third-party provider.

EUSA’s internship services include:

Internship matching in a professional practice internship, which includes mid-term review and Unpacking Your Experience workshop
Virtual pre-placement consultation meeting with EUSA Prague placement manager, which is conducted in English
Follow-up and any required trouble-shooting
On-site program management and emergency support
Eight weeks of housing in student residences
On-site program and internship orientation, including airport pickup
Cultural exploration activities program
Coordination with each internship supervisor and receipt of the supervisor’s and the student’s written evaluations

You must be admitted to the UNC Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Business Program to apply for this program. Pre-business students, non-business majors and minors and non-UNC students are not eligible, with the exception of students in the Assured Admission Program (AAP). Admission status will be verified for all applicants.

Academics

On this program, you will be enrolled in BUSI 393–Internship Credit. This 3.0 business elective credit course includes submission of reflective activities assigned by UNC and a written evaluation from a supervisor that will be included as a component of your grade. In addition to earning business elective credit hours, this program also fulfills the Experiential Education/High-Impact Experience requirement.

Program Provider

This program is run through EUSA, a third-party provider who manages all aspects of the internship placement process and the logistics of this program.

You will have an individual assessment meeting with a member of the EUSA team to clarify your skills, interests, and professional goals in order to identify an appropriate placement. EUSA draws upon their extensive employer network to find the right match. If a match does not exist in their database, their team will conduct vigorous outreach to locate a proper placement. The companies and organizations that make up the list of approved internships are carefully and regularly monitored by site visits and student assessment. Once you begin the internship, EUSA provides office hours for counseling outside the standard workday, offers mid-term reviews to ensure learning goals are being met, and acquires the supervisor evaluation at the conclusion of the placement.

Management and Safety

EUSA’s Prague office provides management and support to students for the duration of the program. An EUSA program director will be the principal contact for you on issues of housing, safety, culture, and social life in the city. The program director is available via regular office hours, outside your normal work schedule, to answer questions and resolve problems and is available 24 hours per day via cell phone for medical, legal or other emergencies.

Social Program

EUSA provides a social program including group visits to historical and cultural sites and other cultural activities.

Logistics

EUSA arranges for airport pick up for the group-designated flight and for third-party liability insurance.

Withdrawal Policy: Once a student accepts their offer/enrolls on a study abroad program, the spot will be considered filled and will not be offered to another student. Students who withdraw from UBP Global are responsible for non-recoverable costs including the Global Programs Administrative Fee. Your student account will be assessed charges to cover any/all amounts that Kenan-Flagler UBP Global programs has committed or paid on your behalf and are non-recoverable at the time of withdrawal. Such costs include, housing, meals, transportation and any expenses that may be associated with faculty and support participation on your program (if applicable).

***Out of Pocket Estimates are based on the cost of the program, which is determined by combining the average costs our previous students have spent in each of these categories, along with the costs our partner provides to us as their averages. These estimates are subject to change based on exchange rate fluctuations, bank fees, and individual variances in costs of living.

EUSA, the provider for the Dublin International Internship program, offers a select amount of Live, Intern, Learn Abroad Scholarships for first-time study abroad participants who meet the following criteria:

Demonstrated financial need
Member of a group underrepresented in study abroad
Willingness and ability to share their internship abroad experiences through EUSA’s social media

Travel Documents

Do you have a valid passport? If yes, check your passport’s expiration date to ensure that your passport is valid at least 6 months after your program’s scheduled end date. If not, you’ll need to submit a passport renewal application.

Do you need to apply for a passport (first time or renew)? If yes, we recommend that you get started on your passport application right away as you’ll need time to collect documents like your birth certificate to include as part of your application. For complete instructions click here.

Will I need immigration documents? If you are accepted into this program you may need to travel to a Czech consulate/embassy in the United States to obtain a visa permitting you to study in Czechia. For this appointment, you will need your passport in hand along with other documentation from our office and the host university office. The program provider will provide further information upon acceptance into the program. Please set up an appointment with your Global Programs Advisor to discuss.
