Global Programs Academic Procedures

Global academic procedures

Credit information for UNC Kenan-Flagler business students

Current business majors and minors may participate in a UNC Kenan-Flagler Global Program offered by the Undergraduate Business Program, or an Arts & Sciences program offered through the Study Abroad Office. If you are studying through the Study Abroad Office, you will follow their academic procedures and processes, which differ from those at Kenan-Flagler.

For programs offered through Kenan-Flagler, you may seek business credit toward your degree by submitting full course syllabi for pre-approval by the soft deadlines listed below:

  • Spring Semester: Feb. 15
  • Summer I or II: July 15
  • Fall Semester: Sep. 15

Submit syllabi for review via the Kenan-Flagler course evaluation system. We strongly encourage you to submit courses earlier than the soft deadlines and ahead of your host university’s add/drop deadlines, so that you can make the necessary adjustments to your course schedule in the case where a course is not approved for the credit you are seeking. We encourage students to review the ‘Academics Abroad’ page on the Kenan-Flagler intranet for further details on how to utilize the course evaluation system. Students who are accepted to study abroad will also be invited to an extensive Academics Abroad webinar where all information about academic credit abroad and the approval process will be reviewed in detail.

The database also includes a history of how courses at different institutions have transferred for previous semesters (business core or elective credit, general credit, 2nd major, etc.). You are encouraged to peruse this database in advance of selecting your courses. Please note that a previous approval for a course does not guarantee that the course will always count for the requirement listed, as course objectives and requirements are subject to change each semester. Business majors can transfer a maximum of 32 BUSI credit hours from graded study abroad Business coursework. Business minors can transfer a maximum of 6 BUSI credit hours from graded study abroad Business coursework.

For more information regarding the study abroad credit transfer process, please review the UBP Global Credit Transfer Process document.

Credit information for UNC Kenan-Flagler business students studying through the Study Abroad Office

If you decide to study abroad through UNC’s Study Abroad Office, you may be able to transfer back a maximum of 9 business (BUSI) credit hours to be considered for either core or elective BUSI credit. Business minors can transfer a maximum of 6 BUSI credit hours from graded study abroad coursework. Your course selections may be pre-approved. You’ll need to submit your course selections to the main campus study abroad credit system, who in turn will work with Kenan-Flagler Global Programs to review.

Study abroad credit prior to admission to UNC Kenan-Flagler

If you studied abroad prior to your admission to the Undergraduate Business Program on programs provided by the main campus study abroad office or other global program offerings outside of Kenan-Flagler Business School, you may submit a request for a maximum of 1 business (BUSI) course to be considered for either core or elective BUSI credit. BUSI credit for pre-business students is not pre-approved—you must submit your course selections for to Kenan-Flagler once you have been accepted and have enrolled in the Undergraduate Business Program. The only exception to this policy pertains to students in the Assured Admission Program (AAP), who may request more than 1 BUSI course to transfer prior to their enrollment in the Undergraduate Business Program.

Schedule an advising appointment with a Kenan-Flagler global programs advisor for specific information concerning credit.
