The mission of the Net Impact club is to build upon UNC Kenan-Flagler’s tradition of leadership in sustainable business practices by providing students with education, opportunity, and inspiration to drive social and environmental change.
Isabel Adams - President
Isabel Adams is an MBA candidate concentrating in Marketing and Sustainable Enterprise. She is from Washington, DC, and went to UVA for her undergraduate degree, where she studied English and Media Studies. Prior to business school, she worked in marketing & communications in the non-profit and higher ed spaces. This summer, Isabel will be a marketing intern at Hanesbrands. She's happy to chat with you about all things sustainability, coming to business school from a non-traditional background, Chapel Hill's best running routes, and anything to do with food.
Michael Goodwin - VP of Finance & Fundraising
Michael Goodwin is a Class of 2019 MBA candidate concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler, Michael was a Commercial Underwriter at Capital One, N.A. based in McLean, VA. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 2013 with a B.S. in Finance and in 2014 B.A. in Spanish. This summer, Michael will be joining the Leverage Finance Group of Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Charlotte, NC.
Laurel Meeks - VP of Communications
Laurel Meeks is an MBA candidate studying Energy and Real Estate. She is from Charlotte, North Carolina and pursued her undergradate studies at UNC. Prior to coming back to UNC Kenan-Flagler, Laurel was Head of Business Development for an energy efficiency contractor, AppleBlossom Energy. This summer Laurel will intern at Duke Energy Renewables. Her interests include family business, sustainable energy consumption, the international community, and the Carolina Tarheels.
Sridevi Venkatramanan - VP of Alumni Relations
Sridevi Venkatramanan is an MBA candidate concentrating in Strategy and Marketing. She grew up in 5 different states in India speaking 4 different languages and she believes that has made her the adaptable and flexible person she is. Prior to joining business school, she worked with Cisco as a senior software engineer on a variety of technologies in the space of Big Data, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. This summer she will be interning as a Product Manager at Adobe, San Jose. She has always been passionate about technology and is constantly on the lookout for opportunities that tie technology, business and social impact together. She recently launched a terracotta clay based fashion jewelry social enterprise in India. Through her role as a non-profit board consultant and a VP of Net Impact Club at UNC, she hopes to create a positive social impact.
Libby Parsons - VP of Invest for Impact
Libby Parsons is concentrating in corporate finance and will be joining the Financial Institutions Group at Bank of America Merill Lynch in New York City this summer. Prior to business school, Libby worked for two organizations to help small businesses access the financing they need to launch or grow -- Accion, a non-profit microlender and the City of New York. Libby is from San Antonio Texas and enjoys attempting to re-create her favorite Tex-Mex recipes and rooting for the Spurs.
Carrie Bales - VP of Learning & Development
Carrie Bales is an MBA candidate concentrating in Sustainable Enterprise. She is a dual degree student also working on her Master of Environmental Management at the Duke Nicholas School of the Environment. She is from Poquoson, VA and attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate degree. She studied Agricultural Sciences with minors in Environmental Economics, International Agriculture, and Civic Agriculture and Food Systems. Prior to business school, she worked in transportation engineering at Norfolk Southern Railroad as a supervisor in the construction and maintenance of railroad infrastructure. This summer, Carrie will be the Sustainability Intern at Eastman Chemical Company. Outside of school Carrie enjoys traveling, fishing, building furniture, and cooking.
Bhaskar Bhat - VP of Community Engagement
Bhaskar Bhat is originally from India, having spent his time there between Delhi and Mumbai. He moved to the US to pursue a masters in Industrial engineering from the University of Michigan. After graduating, he followed his interest in supply chain by joining the Supply Services function of RB, a British consumer goods company, where he worked in multiple supply roles in logistics and distribution. At Kenan-Flagler, he is concentrating in management consulting and giving back to the community as a VP for the Net Impact Club and non-profit board consultant. Outside of school, Bhaskar enjoys travelling, hiking, soccer and watching football.
Soraya Alivandi - VP of Careers with Impact
Soraya Alivandi is concentrating in Operations Management and Sustainable Enterprise. Soraya graduated from Tufts University with majors in International Relations and the Arabic Language in 2011. Since then, Soraya has worked in the defense, higher education, and technology industries. Prior to her start at Kenan-Flagler, Soraya worked at her alma mater as a technology project manager, supporting the fundraising division of the university. In addition, Soraya played an active role in the Junior League of Boston, a women's service organization, leading a nutrition and wellness program for young girls in the Boston area. This summer, Soraya will be interning at PepsiCo in New York City, in a Global Procurement role.
Yinlu Deng - VP of International Student Experience & Inclusion
Born in Shanghai, China, Yinlu has developed a strong interest in an array of cultures since his young age. He graduated with major in Spanish Philolgy from Shanghai International Studies University. Prior to MBA, Yinlu had a four-year, cross-cultural experience in the roles of supply chain and business development in infrastructure construction in Africa. He also has a brief exposure to overseas fund investment. At UNC Kenan Flagler, Yinlu is concentrated in Marketing and Operations. As an advocate for sustainability, diversity and inclusion, he is a member of Black Communities Conference Selection Committee of Kenan Institute.
The UNC Kenan-Flagler Net Impact Club is a Gold Chapter member of the worldwide Net Impact organization, making us one of the largest and most active chapters in the country. We are a group of 200+ MBA students seeking to create positive social and environmental impact through our careers. Our club plays a vital role in students’ personal and professional development, preparing members to integrate sustainability into roles across all sectors and stakeholder groups.
