Business in the Forefront of the Olympics

In this immersion program, you will be introduced to Japanese business culture by engaging with industries relevant to the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Possible sectors that you may study are:

  • Technology
  • Finance
  • Start-up Incubation
  • Sports Marketing and Media

Each of these areas are playing a vital role in The Games globalizing sports and leisure activities. To understand the nuances of each business interaction, the program will heavily focus on the collectivist and structured vertical hierarchy nature of doing business in Japan. You will learn valuable intercultural communication skills and nonverbal and verbal behaviors. These concepts will come to life through:

  • Interactions with locals
  • Company visits
  • Guest lectures and
  • A variety of program-relevant cultural activities.

From Jan. until the program departs in March, you will take pre-program classes designed to give context to the weeklong on-ground experience. While in country, you should expect to spend approximately 10 hours per day on program activities. After the program returns, you will have one final class to wrap-up the themes and ideas you’ve encountered. The program is led by Sharon Cannon, Clinical Professor of Management and Corporate Communication.
