The Accounting Mentorship Program Returns in 2023 with Enhanced Benefits

The UNC Master of Accounting (MAC) Program will re-launch its Accounting Mentorship Program (AMP) in Fall 2023 with improvements that can help undergraduates forge a pathway to graduate school and professional opportunities.

Since AMP originated in 2016, UNC MAC and our partner FORVIS (previously Dixon Hughes Goodman, which merged with BKD to form FORVIS earlier this year) have created a program with a collaborative culture that both challenges and supports our mentees.

Looking ahead to 2023, students selected for AMP through the application and interview process will be provided with the following benefits:

  • Automatic admission into the UNC Kenan-Flagler MAC online or on-campus* format upon successful completion of AMP
  • Priority fellowship consideration for the Kenan-Flagler MAC program
  • A separate Summer 2023 interview window for internships at FORVIS for Winter 2024 or Summer 2024

“Our AMP mentees are consistently impressive, and are the type of students who can enhance the MAC program by the diverse experiences they bring,” said Crystal Reed, Associate Director of Admissions and Diversity for MAC. “Successful completion of AMP solidifies that they are the type of students who will thrive in our program and go on to great things in the profession.”

“AMP has served as a launching pad for young accounting professionals by providing them access to experience and mentorship in the field,” said Kyerra Moody, Diversity and Inclusion Business Partner at FORVIS. “That access has allowed for meaningful relationships to be built and it has been amazing to witness the impact that our mentors have on each cohort, and vice versa. These new benefits will make the experience more rewarding by giving the young professionals a direct path to compete for an internship and demonstrate how their bright minds will aid in shaping the profession of the future.”

AMP is open to rising second-year, third-year and fourth-year undergraduates at any non-UNC Chapel Hill undergraduate institution. In addition to the new benefits, the program will continue to feature the same array of workshops aimed at enhancing mentees’ business and accounting knowledge and preparation for both the job market and furthering their education. The program is delivered in cohort-based format limited to 10-15 participants, to allow mentees to get to know each other and work together.

Each mentee is assigned a personal mentor from FORVIS who provides 1:1 advice and insights into the accounting profession. All programming is virtual until the Capstone Case Competition, which will be held in Chapel Hill in January 2024.

The  final application deadline for AMP is April 3, 2023. Applicants will be selected for the program through an interview process that will begin in mid-April 2023. Submit your application online.
