In fiscal year 2021, the UNC Kenan-Flagler community continued to face challenging times, yet the generous spirit of our donors remained high. This year, we celebrate the Business School’s most successful fundraising year with over $73 million dollars delivered by 6,380 donors.
This achievement speaks to the generosity of our community and their desire to provide our students with transformative experiences. They further access to a top-tier education and optimize the learning experiences for close to 3,100 students in our Undergraduate Business, MBA, Master of Accounting and PhD programs. Each gift strengthens UNC Kenan-Flagler’s ability to develop future business leaders through unique programs, leading faculty and innovative research.
UNC Kenan-Flagler supporters created 18 new scholarships and fellowships with nearly $5 million in gifts. The establishment and accessibility of scholarships and fellowships eases the financial barriers that could prevent the next generation of Tar Heels from achieving their dreams and are instrumental in attracting the most talented students.
Gifts to the Fund for UNC Kenan-Flagler inspire and transform lives. Our community raised close to $4.6 million in unrestricted gifts, which are critical to the Business School’s commitment to outstanding teaching, research and service, and are an essential source to offset unforeseen challenges and respond to new opportunities.
The challenge was issued and the match was met. In April, the Business School raised $75 million in private funds for the new building project to unlock the state match passed by the North Carolina General Assembly in June 2020. The new building and renovations of the McColl Building will make it possible to increase enrollment in the Undergraduate Business Program by at least 50% and attract more top students from around the globe to attend our graduate programs.
After making the largest gift in School history of $11 million in May 2020, Steven D. Bell (BA ’67) more than doubled his pledge towards the new building campaign to $25 million. His legacy of investing in people and real estate turns to an investment in the success of UNC Kenan-Flagler and in making North Carolina even stronger.
Virtual Kenan-Flagler Day was a day like no other as our community achieved its best giving day in the School’s 100-plus-year history. Together, we more than doubled last year’s historic day by raising a record-breaking $5,167,548 dollars on 1,502 gifts. Leading the campus in both gifts received and dollars raised, the Business School captured the Battle for Carolina title in a hard-fought challenge with the College of Arts and Sciences.
On Kenan-Flagler Day, our community displayed its commitment to a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community by making more than 150 gifts. We are developing our students’ knowledge, understanding and skills so they graduate ready to be team members and leaders who understand the value of diversity, equity and inclusion.
UNC Kenan-Flagler’s mission is to prepare the next generation of business leaders. Your financial support directly supports the Business School – from new scholarships to vital annual support for programs. Together, we continue to overcome and thrive as a community dedicated to making our world better every day.
