  • Overview

Kenan-Flagler Global Programs (KFBS semester exchanges, KFBS summer programs, and KFBS short-term immersions) are ONLY open to students who have been admitted to the major or minor Undergraduate Business Program. Pre-business students and non-business majors and minors are not eligible to apply to Kenan-Flagler Global Programs. Admission status to the Undergraduate Business Program will be verified for all applicants.

A NOTE ABOUT PASSPORTS AND VISAS: It is strongly recommended that students have in their possession by the application deadline a valid passport with an expiration date no earlier than 6 months after the program end date. Due to visa regulations, students should consult their study abroad advisor before making international travel plans prior to the program start date. Students accepted into this program will need to travel to a Spanish consulate here in the United States, with passport in hand, to obtain a visa permitting them to study in Spain.

The University of Navarra School of Economics and Business was founded in 1987 and was the first university in Spain to launch a bi-lingual Spanish-English Business program. A strong international perspective, combined with a humanistic educational approach aligns with the University of Navarra’s mission to provide a holistic learning environment. The School boasts a student-centered approach and fosters student participation in and out of the classroom.

As the capital of the Navarra province in northeast Spain, Pamplona (or Iruña) boasts a rich history with exciting traditions, such as the world famous Running of the Bulls. Pamplona is a laid back city and is well-connected to Barcelona and Madrid, making the rest of Europe easily accessible. English is not spoken as heavily in Pamplona, so your Spanish language skills will certainly develop throughout your exchange experience.

    Credit information for KFBS students

The undergraduate business program at The University of Navarra School of Economics and Business offers courses in Spanish and English. Courses are at an appropriate level for second semester junior and senior BSBA majors and transfer for business elective credit only. Navarra does not offer business core courses for single semester exchange students.

Participants have the opportunity to take some of their business coursework in Spanish. It is necessary for applicants to have Spanish language proficiency commensurate to completing level 4. The University of Navarra offers an intensive Spanish crash course in August prior to the program's official start date.

Courses taken at The University of Navarra will transfer back to UNC Pass/Fail. Achieving a grade of 5 (out of 10) or above will transfer back to UNC as a pass course, which will not affect UNC GPA. Students who receive any grade under 5 will fail the course and an F grade will transfer back to UNC, which will affect their UNC GPA. Though transfer credit for this program is Pass/Fail, future employers and graduate schools will also look at the University of Navarra transcript, so grades are important.

Students participating on this program will transfer back 3 UNC credits for every 5 ECTS credit course, and are expected to take a minimum of 23 ECTS credits during the semester (maximum number of credits is 30 ECTS). A student who earns a grade of 5 or more in all courses will receive a total of 13.5-18 UNC credits for their semester abroad.

This program also fulfills Experiential Education and you will earn points towards the Kenan-Flagler Inclusive Global Leadership Initiative. Full-time enrollment on this program is defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours.

  • Housing

Pamplona is a university student friendly city, and there are plenty of housing options in the neighborhood areas located within walking distance to campus. Most exchange students choose to live in private apartments, however, on-campus accommodation is available. Each student is responsible for making their own housing arrangements. The University of Navarra Housing Office provides information and advice about the different types of housing available.

There is also the option for placement in family homes. The University of Navarra provides the homestay information, but students are responsible for managing the process themselves. The University of Navarra cannot guarantee placement in a homestay.

Exchange participants benefit from the lively student life on campus and in the local community and will have ample opportunity to practice their Spanish language skills.
