Special Events Coordinator
Originally from Worthington, OH, but raised a Tar Heel, Melissa moved to Chapel Hill, NC in high school and stuck around to receive her bachelor’s degree in Art History and French from UNC in 2013. She was first exposed to event planning through an internship at Galerie Beckel Odille Boicos in Paris, where she helped organize and manage several exhibition openings. After graduating, Melissa moved to Washington, D.C. for an internship at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on the Special Events team. Shortly following the internship in the Fall of 2014, Melissa was hired as a member of the events team at the Kennedy Center. While at the Kennedy Center, Melissa learned the ins and outs of non-profit events and how they can benefit both the organization and its donors. In the Spring of 2016, she moved back to Durham to be closer to family and experimented with work as a wedding planner. However, she couldn’t stay away from development and fundraising events, so she soon joined the Advancement Services team as Special Events Coordinator in the Fall of 2016. Melissa loves dancing and singing, trying new restaurants and spending lots of time with family and friends.
