“UNC Kenan-Flagler has changed me. I’m more confident as a woman. It taught me how to identify my intrinsic marketing talents and to develop and employ my network in the job search.”
Jen Tackett began service in the United States Army soon after earning her BA from Furman University in Greenville, SC. In 2006, Jen was deployed to Iraq. As a General Logistics Officer, she provided logistics support to American and Coalition soldiers in Iraq, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal while deployed.
Jen’s close relationship with her executive coach at UNC Kenan-Flagler helped her to make a transition from the military to the business world. “[My executive coach] challenged me to think of my team peers as soldiers – to protect them and encourage them the same way I would soldiers. I’ve even met with him to talk with him about how I can be my most successful at Procter & Gamble.”
While an MBA student at UNC Kenan-Flagler, Jen enrolled in the Global Immersion Elective (GIE) to Brazil. “Before the GIE to Brazil, I thought sustainability was recycling,” she says. “That experience really taught me that if you’re not taking care of your people, your organization won’t do well.”
