I live and work in Puerto Rico
“I decided to pursue my MBA because I knew that, in order to develop as a manager and leader in my company, I needed to balance my technical background with a new set of business skills. I chose UNC’s OneMBA program for its outstanding reputation and comparative value, and for the opportunity to study Global business with colleagues from around the world. In Puerto Rico, business practices are different from those of the contiguous U.S., and understanding those differences is critical to success. In OneMBA, I’m learning the financial skills, the cultural influences, and the analytical framework I need to be an effective manager on a global level.
Because I commute to the program, the OneMBA format of remote study and periodic weeklong residencies is ideal for me. That said, it’s still a significant time commitment, so it was really important for me to have upfront conversations with my family, managers, and boss. I would urge anyone who is considering an Executive MBA program to ensure that you have the support of your family and work. Their support is critical to your success in the program. When you think about it, it’s a two-year investment in your future. My colleagues and family understand that the short-term sacrifice is worth the long-term benefits.
With my increased business aptitude, I’ll be able to grow in a direction not previously possible in my technically oriented career. And my colleagues have already commented that I participate more in financial decisions where I was not previously able to contribute. So, the return on investment started on day one!”
