Do I need tickets?
Tickets are required for the Graduation reception at The Blue Zone on May 19, but they are not required for the Graduation ceremony or Post-Graduation reception.
Where will the reception and ceremony take place?
The pre-graduation reception will consist of dessert, drinks, and live music at The Blue Zone on Friday, May 19. The ceremony will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center (enter at Entrance A) on Saturday, May 20 and will be followed by a reception with dinner, dessert, drinks, and live music in Latané Plaza at McColl Building. When leaving the Smith Center, follow the stairs near Entrance B and the reception is on the lawn in front of McColl Building.
The main UNC Commencement ceremony occurs one week earlier on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in Kenan Stadium. No tickets are required.
What time should the graduates arrive to the ceremony?
Graduating MBA students should arrive in full regalia to the Dean E. Smith Center by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20.
Will parking be available for the ceremony?
Parking is free and will be available in the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School parking deck or at any of the parking lots around the Dean E. Smith Center. If you plan to park at the business school, parking is available in the business school deck only. (Please do not park in the Kenan-McColl visitors’ lot as this is a reserved lot that requires permits. Cars without permits will be ticketed.) Guests may also be dropped off in front of the McColl Building or Dean E. Smith Center.
Will disability seating be available during the ceremony?
Disability parking is available in the business school deck as well as a few spots in the front of McColl Building and the Dean E. Smith Center. (Please do not park in the Kenan-McColl visitors’ lot as this is a reserved lot that requires permits. Cars without permits will be ticketed.) Guests may also be dropped off in front of the building.
How long will the ceremony last?
The ceremony begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and will end at approximately 7:00 p.m. The reception in Latané Plaza at McColl Building will begin immediately after the ceremony has ended.
Will there be photographers available at the ceremony?
Yes. Two photographers will be at the Dean E. Smith Center during the ceremony. Students will receive instructions on how to purchase their photos shortly following the ceremony.
Will graduates’ names be called?
Will graduates receive their diploma at the ceremony?
No. Graduates will be presented with a certificate. Diplomas are mailed by the Registrar’s Office in June to graduates’ permanent home addresses. Graduates should ensure that their permanent home address in ConnectCarolina is accurate prior to the ceremony. International graduates should expect a delay in shipment.
When is the UNC Commencement ceremony?
The campus-wide graduation is in Kenan Stadium on Sunday, May 14 at 9:00 a.m. More information is available on the UNC Commencement website.
