Mission

To educate UNC Kenan-Flagler students on the role that sports & entertainment play in professional business and act as a resource for students interested in pursuing careers in these industries.

Leadership Team

SantosRafael Santos - President

Rafael is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he graduated in Economics from Fundacao Getulio Vargas – FGV. After college, he worked for 8 years in Banking, being 3 years in investment banking and 5 years in Commercial Banking. At Kenan-Flagler, he is concentrating in marketing and general management and has become involved in many different initiatives, including the Pride Club and the Latin American Business Association. During his summer internship, he will be joining Wasserman’s Marketing team in Miami. Rafael moved to Chapel Hill with his wife Gabi, and his dog Fran, and as a good Brazilian, he is passionate about soccer.

ChapaRodrigo Chapa - VP of Corporate Relations

Rodrigo is from Houston, TX, but has also lived in Monterrey, Mexico and Dallas, TX, where he attended Southern Methodist University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management. After receiving his degree, Rodrigo worked for nearly 2 years in Private Banking and 3 years in Corporate & Investment Banking. At Kenan-Flagler, he is a member of The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, the Alliance of Minority Business Students, and the Latin American Business Association. He is president of the Soccer Club and VP of Corporate Relations for the Sports & Entertainment Club. Rodrigo moved to Chapel Hill with his wife, Monique, and his son, Luca. He is a sports enthusiast and loves traveling to and attending sporting events.

StoneZach Stone - VP of Finance

Originally from Rockville, Maryland, Zach moved to North Carolina in 2009 to attend Wake Forest University. After graduating with a degree in Finance, Zach instead chose to pursue his passion for sports, extending his work-study role into a full-time player personnel position with Wake Forest Football and later the Tennessee Titans. At Kenan-Flagler, he is concentrating in management consulting and is looking forward to giving back to UNC by serving on the executive committee for both MBA Ambassadors as well as the Student Store. Outside of school, Zach enjoys playing golf and watching pretty much everything on ESPN.

AvilaJaime Avila - VP of International Experience

Jaime Avila is a first-year MBA student at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, and is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico. He went to ITESM Campus Monterrey for his undergraduate education and graduated with a degree in Economics in 2012. After graduating, Jaime worked in the real estate industry in Monterrey for Gava Capital, a private equity real estate fund. As a financial analyst for the firm, he worked in the acquisitions team, analyzing deals in all real estate asset classes. Jaime enjoys playing and watching sports, running, and swimming.

PiresCarlos Pires - VP of Learning & Development

Carlos Pires is presently a Kenan-Flagler(UNC) MBA student looking for a summer job in the Tech Industry. Carlos took his Economics degree in Portugal, in which he co-founded the first Entrepreneurial club at the University, Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO Club). He started as an auditor at Deloitte but soon after he understood that a position with less time behind a desk and more contact with clients was more suitable for him. Carlos started as a Salesman in a communications company, and after 12 months he was promoted to Sales Manager, in which he managed close to 20/30 Salespeople on average. Also, throughout his experience, he hired, coached, and trained close to 200 Salespeople. At UNC, he is currently taking a concentration in Corporate Finance and a focus on Data Analytics, so that his sales experience could be complemented with the numerical side of the business.

PatronGabriel Patron - VP of Communications

Gabriel Rizo Patron is a first-year MBA student at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, and originally from Lima, Peru. He majored in Business Administration from a top Peruvian Business School in 2010. After graduating, Gabriel started his career at EY, where he worked as a Consultant for 1 year, helping clients in the financial services industry. Afterwards, he worked for a Start-up company as a Head of Finance and Administration. Finally, before coming back to school, he was Head of Financial Planning and Controlling for the biggest Healthcare company in Peru. Outside of work, Gabriel is a sports fanatic.

Um'raniKhalil Um'rani - VP of Social Events

Khalil is originally from Chicago, Illinois and is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He has over a decade of experience in banking and institutional finance and most recently served as the Vice President of Strategy at North Side Credit Union in Chicago. Prior to joining North Side, Khalil worked at J.P. Morgan Chase, Barclays Capital, and Sterne, Agee & Leach, where he advised financial institutions on capital raising and strategic alternatives. At Kenan-Flagler Khalil is concentrating in Real Estate Finance. In addition to being a member of the Executive board of the Sports and Entertainment Club he is an active member of the Real Estate club, The Alliance of Minority Business Students, and a participant in the Non-Profit Board Consulting Program.
