UNC's MBA Real Estate Club aims to provide a strong platform from which to explore the real estate industry, pursue educational and career opportunities, and further the practice of real estate.
Matthew Carrus - President
Matthew graduated from Pace University with a degree in Marketing Management. Upon graduation, he took on the role of marketing manager at his family’s healthcare services company, before being promoted to general manager where he lead a 50 person team and drove annual revenue to a new high of $12 million. At Kenan-Flagler, Matthew is currently pursuing a concentration in Real Estate and Corporate Finance. This summer, he will be working as an investment intern for Health Care REIT. In his free time, Matthew enjoys playing golf, cooking, and reading about current events.
Richie Lim - VP of Finance
Richie is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Real Estate. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Richie spent three years working in the real estate industry in Chicago. Most recently, he was a Senior Associate at Pangea Properties, a private multi-family REIT that owns and operates over 10,000 units in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Baltimore. At Pangea, he built the financial and operational reporting that supported the company’s growth from 2,000 to 10,000 units. Prior to this role, Richie worked at Raymond James & Associates as an Investment Banking Analyst in their health care group, working on 13 deals with aggregate transaction value of $6.5 billion. Richie graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Accounting.
Jon Lim - VP of Communications
Jon graduated from Emory University in 2009 with a degree in Economics. Before coming back to Kenan-Flagler for his MBA, he worked in pharmaceutical advertising in New York City as an account executive and analyst with the strategic planning group. He is currently pursuing a concentration in real estate and corporate finance and hopes to work in real estate development after graduation. In his free time, Jon enjoys playing tennis and basketball and exploring everything Franklin St. has to offer.
Natalie Smith - VP of Corporate Sponsorship
Natalie is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Real Estate and Corporate Finance. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Natalie spent seven years working in real estate in New York City. Initially, she worked for Cushman and Wakefield as an Analyst for the Manhattan retail and office leasing markets. Most recently, she was a Development Associate for New York City-based luxury multi-family developer, Alchemy Properties Inc. This summer Natalie will be interning with Real Estate Capital Partners, a real estate private equity firm in New York City.
Mary Margaret Little - VP of Corporate Sponsorship
Mary Margaret grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and moved west to pursue her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After graduation, she worked in multiple roles in real estate development and technology. Most recently, she was client services manager for a start-up software company. At KFBS, she is currently studying Finance and Real Estate. In addition to supporting the RE Club, she serves as VP of Women’s Initiatives for Carolina Women in Business.
Stuart Kessler - VP of Learning
Stuart graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Political Science. He worked with the Federal Government at the General Services Administration where he advised and assisted clients with their financial IT services procurement needs. He is currently pursuing a concentration in real estate and after graduation hopes to work on the finance side of the industry in the Southeast. In his free time, Stuart enjoys running, golf, basketball and watching the Demon Deacons fruitlessly play sports.
Michael Bender - VP of Learning
Michael Bender received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia where he majored in Economics and History. Before matriculating to UNC Kenan-Flagler, he taught high school math for two years in Southwest Atlanta with the Teach for America program. He is currently concentrating in Real Estate and Corporate Finance, and he hopes to enter the real estate industry in the Southeast upon graduation. In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing squash and spending time with friends and family.
