The mission of the Net Impact club is to build upon UNC Kenan-Flagler’s tradition of leadership in sustainable business practices by providing students with education, opportunity, and inspiration to drive social and environmental change.
Meisha McDaniel - President
Meisha is a dual Master’s degree candidate in the Department of City and Regional Planning and the MBA program at the Kenan-Flagler Business School. By specializing in Economic Development and Operations, she plans to pursue a career in the private sector where she can develop and implement effective strategies to advance triple-bottom line goals. Meisha will be the 2015-2016 President of the MBA Net Impact Chapter and she is currently working with NC Growth as a Kenan Institute Economic Development Analyst. During her first summer, Meisha worked with the UNC Development Finance Initiative where she consulted with public sector entities to facilitate property financing and management. Prior to entering UNC, she worked within the nonprofit sector for several years, specializing diverse topics such as, rural community development, food security, climate change mitigation, and grantmaking.
Julie Sandler - VP of Finance
Julie is a full-time MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance and Real Estate. Prior to coming to business school Julie worked in impact investing at Calvert Foundation providing financing to social enterprises and affordable housing developers. She also has experience working at the US Department of the Treasury supporting community development financial institutions. She hopes to use her business school degree to support the development of sustainable and economically viable communities.
Jasmeet Kaur - VP of Communications
Jasmeet graduated has a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering. Prior to attending business school, she was working with Genpact Headstrong Capital Markets, providing IT consulting and technical services to an investment bank and a clearing house. She has volunteered with Lions Club International for diverse causes. Post her MBA, she plans to pursue product marketing management, and work in a sustainable direction.
Morgan Lovit - VP of Corporate Sponsorship
Morgan grew up in South Carolina and graduated from Indiana University. She worked for Marriott hotel properties in food and beverage, convention services, and event planning. While working the 2012 Super Bowl event in Indianapolis, IN, she bodied guarded for Michael Irvin and escorted celebrities like Madonna and Michael Ditka through the hotel premises. She is glad to return to the warm south and enjoys going to beach and hiking in the mountains. Morgan aspires to be a marketing professional with a sustainable mindset.
Elizabeth Metzler - VP of Learning & Development
Elizabeth Metzler is a dual degree Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Behavior & Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduate student interested in engaging diverse stakeholders to create sustainable solutions for impacting health. She pursues these objectives through her leadership as a Non-Profit Board Fellow, Blue Cup Captain for ultimate Frisbee, and as a VP of Learning and Development for Net Impact. Elizabeth enjoys biking, cooking, and cheering for her alma mater, Duke University.
Dave Ball - VP of University Relations
David Ball is a first year MBA student at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. After graduating from the University of Michigan, David joined Peace Corps team in Nicaragua. During his service, he focused on education and entrepreneurship. Post Peace Corps, David managed the economic development portfolio for FHI 360’s USAID funded Nicaragua operations. His major accomplishment was incubating, launching, and accelerating six Nicaraguan sustainable tourism startups. Most recently, David was working with Major League Baseball in the Dominican Republic to develop a study that will evaluate the impact of MLB’s investments in education on Latin American players’ development. At Kenan-Flagler, David leads the market research for a startup out of the UNC Energy Frontier Research Center, works with the town of Princeville, North Carolina on their economic development strategy, and is part of the inaugural class of Adam’s Apprentices.
Nicole Thomas - VP of Social Impact
Nicole is originally from Tampa, FL and studied Finance at the University of Florida. After graduating, she assisted government contracters with regulatory compliance and forensic accounting-based investigations before joining the Peace Corps as a Community Economic Development Volunteer in Peru. Nicole is currently a Kenan Institute Economic Develoment Analyst with NCGrowth and hopes to work in management consulting when she graduates from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. In her spare time, she enjoys paddleboarding, yoga, and attempting both at the same time.
Thomas Frere - VP of Sustainability
Thomas is a full-time MBA student at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Prior to school, he studied Environmental Studies at James Madison University, taught special education as a Teach For America Corps Member, and managed guest service and front-end operations at a Target store near Washington, DC. Thomas is currently working with NC Growth as a Kenan Institute Economic Development Analyst, where he provides consulting services and technical assistance to local entrepreneurs. He is passionate about sustainability and loves to spend his free time kayaking and fishing.
John Ealy - VP of Careers in Sustainability Forum
John is a full-time MBA student concentrating in Marketing at UNC Kenan-Flagler. He was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV and has a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from UNC-Chapel Hill. Prior to business school, John worked in client relations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. While in business school, he has helped administer UNC's Healthcare Conference, revive a defunct Foodie Club, and helped expose middle school students from a local, low-income neighborhood to business fundamentals. Post-MBA, John hopes to meaningfully impact lives around him through his professional and volunteering experiences.
Charlie Shiflett - VP of Sustainable Venture Capital Investment Competition
Charlie is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Charlie spent 4 years in New York and London at SNL Financial, a sector focused research and data provider. In his most recent role, Charlie was a Senior Product Associate where he worked closely with current and prospective investment banking, regulatory, consulting, and private equity clients throughout North America, Europe, and Asia on how to use the suite of SNL Financial products most effectively. He specialized in financial institutions and was instrumental in the European Central Bank’s implementation of SNL Financial for the most recent stress tests. Charlie graduated from the University of Virginia in 2009 with a Bachelors of Arts in History. This summer, Charlie will be joining the Investment Banking Division of Jefferies in New York.
Andrew Bromley - VP of Food Systems Conference
Andrew is a dual Master's degree candidate in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the School of Public Health and the MBA program at the Kenan-Flagler Business School. Before returning to school, Andrew worked in healthcare as a Registered Dietitian and in public education with Teach for America. Andrew has been passionate about food his entire life and has discovered profound meaning in utilizing nutrition to prevent and treat disease. Our healthcare system is in crisis, and preventative solutions are the key to a sustainable future. After graduation, Andrew hopes to find a career at the intersection of business, policy, and heatlhcare where he can pioneer and champion these reforms.
The UNC Kenan-Flagler Net Impact Club is a Gold Chapter member of the worldwide Net Impact organization, making us one of the largest and most active chapters in the country. We are a group of 200+ MBA students seeking to create positive social and environmental impact through our careers. Our club plays a vital role in students’ personal and professional development, preparing members to integrate sustainability into roles across all sectors and stakeholder groups.
