Mission

The MBA Ambassadors provides prospective students with a link to current UNC Kenan-Flagler MBAs. Students work directly for the Admissions Office to support their mission of bringing the best and brightest to UNC Kenan-Flagler.

Leadership Team

Shannelie Mendez Carlo - President

Shannelie grew up in Las Marias, Puerto Rico and completed her undergraduate degree in Marketing and International Business at Georgetown University. Prior to business school she worked in public relations in New York City, where she worked on both traditional and social media campaigns for health, non-profit and CPG brands. She is pursuing a career in brand management. In her free time, Shannelie enjoys painting, cooking and binge watching TV shows.

Rebecca Kaye - VP of US Market Outreach

​Rebecca is originally from Fairfax, VA. She completed her undergraduate education at The University of Virginia majoring in Economics. After college, she worked as a paralegal in Washington, D.C. Rebecca is concentrating in Corporate Finance and will be interning at McKesson in their finance department. At Kenan-Flagler, Rebecca is also involved with MBA Ambassadors and Carolina Women in Business.

Sumanth Nayak - VP of International Market Outreach

Sumanth grew up in Chennai, and completed his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Madras. Later, he moved to Hyderabad, where he worked at McGraw-Hill Financial as a Business Analyst for three years, and started his own GMAT training venture. While in a role dealing with McGraw-Hill’s clients, he developed a keen interest in B2B marketing, and planned to transition into a career in marketing. Sumanth built a holiday beach shack at Goa, that he owned and operated; he also volunteered and worked at non-profits in the education sector, including Make A Difference and Teach for India.

Ryan Hughes - VP of Special Events

Ryan grew up on Long Island and completed his undergraduate degree in marketing at Villanova University. Before business school, Ryan lived in New York City where he worked in the marketing department for a national accounting firm. Eventually Ryan realized that he wanted to work in marketing focused on consumers and is pursuing a career in brand management by transitioning his past business focused marketing experience. Ryan is a diehard fan of the Yankees, Jets, Knicks and Rangers and in his spare time he explores his creative side through cooking.

Benjamin Ricks - VP of Incoming Student Experience

Benjamin grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY and completed his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. As a finance major, he began his career in a foreign exchange operations role at a large international bank. Later, he transitioned to the world of M&A and capital raising as a senior financial analyst at a middle market investment bank. He came to Kenan-Flagler to make a career pivot into marketing and brand management. In his free time, Benjamin enjoys playing basketball, building his sneaker collection, problem solving, and spending time outdoors with his wife and daughter.

Vasu Sharma - VP of Digital Marketing

Vasu graduated from BITS Pilani in India with a Bachelor of Engineering(Hons.) in Computer Science. He is originally from Rohtak which is a fast-growing city close to New Delhi. Prior to UNC Kenan-Flagler, he worked as a software engineer at CA Technologies in their Enterprise Software Division in a development and sustaining profile. He is pursuing a concentration in Marketing and Operations at the B School and has avid interest in product management. He is also an Economic Development Analyst at the Kenan Institute. For his summer internship, Vasu will join CommonBond which is a FinTech startup based out of NY. Vasu is an avid dancer, and has been choreographing stage performances for over 7 years now. He enjoys playing cricket, table-tennis and likes to travel.

Jamen Miller - VP of Training

Jamen grew up in North Carolina and completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting at NC State University. Before business school, Jamen was a part of the US Army, where he was a member of both the Infantry and Intelligence Corps. Jamen decided to transition out of the military in order to pursue interests in entrepreneurship and family business, focusing partly in real estate. Jamen enjoys spending time with his family and supporting organizations devoted to helping dogs find their forever homes.

Matthew Newberg - VP of Club Outreach

Matthew is originally from Bozeman, Montana and studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. Prior to attending UNC Kenan-Flagler, he worked at General Electric and mentored FIRST Robotics Competition team 291. He decided to use an MBA to facilitate a career switch into Operations Management or Management Consulting. In his free time, he helps plan digital strategy for his father's small business, practices photography, and enjoys hiking.

Antra Chowdury - VP of Club Outreach

Antra grew up in New Delhi in India and completed her undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, India. Before business school, Antra lived in New Delhi where she worked as an Engineer in a project management consulting firm under the aegis of Government of India. At the business school, she is concentrating in marketing and finance and is pursuing product development in renewable energy to leverage her engineering background and maximize impact through her business education. Antra is really fond of travelling and experimenting with cooking.

Since MBA Ambassadors directly work for Admissions Office, students can make impact on shaping incoming MBA classes. Throughout the activities, students also have opportunities to strengthen communication skills, network with classmates and enhance leadership skills.
