Entrepreneurship Emphasis

Entrepreneurial career opportunities come in many forms, whether you want to start your own company, work for a start-up, find an entrepreneurial opportunity within a larger company, or go into related areas such as venture capital or social entrepreneurship. The emphasis in entrepreneurial studies is designed to give students the necessary skills to identify and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities either directly after graduation or (more often) later in their careers.

Undergraduate business majors must complete a minimum of 9.0 credit hours, including one core course and a minimum of two elective courses for 6.0 credit hours.

Entrepreneurial Core Course (minimum 3.0 credits)
BUSI 500 Entrepreneurship & Business Planning (3.0 credits)
BUSI 506 New Ventures Analysis (3.0 credits)
Entrepreneurial Electives (6.0 credit hours required from any of the following courses)
BUSI 461 Independent Study in Entrepreneurship (1.5 to 3.0 credits)
(subject to undergraduate business program approval)
BUSI 501 Professional Selling Strategies & Skills (3.0 credits)
BUSI 502 Entrepreneurial Finance (1.5 credits)
BUSI 503 Family Business I: Introduction to Family Enterprise (1.5 credits)
BUSI 504 Launching the Venture (1.5 credits) Permission required
BUSI 505 Consulting to the Entrepreneurial Firm (3.0 credits)
BUSI 507 Sustainable Business & Social Entrepreneurship (3.0 credits)
BUSI 512 Family Business II: Ownership & Wealth Management (1.5 credits)
BUSI 516 Private Equity (Restricted to GLOBE) (3.0 credits)
BUSI 517 Private Equity (1.5 credits)
BUSI 564 New Product Development (3.0 credits)
BUSI 623 Global Venturing (Restricted to GLOBE) (3.0 credits)

For students seeking to substitute study abroad or any credit earned outside of the business school, a petition to substitute an emphasis requirement must be submitted via the online request form available on the intranet. If approved, a maximum of 1 course (or 3 credit hours) may apply to an emphasis.
