Internship Opportunities

Internships

Working as an intern is an excellent opportunity to get a taste for the profession and the work you’ll be doing as a accountant. It’s also a great way to make valuable connections within the industry. All online students, and some on-campus students, can take advantage of opportunities for firm internships.

Winter Internships

Online students can take advantage of winter internship opportunities offered by the firms who recruit students from the MAC Program. During the September interview immersion, online students will interview for internships. The internships themselves will take place from January to March in a special internship “window” built into the curriculum calendar. Successful internships generally lead to full-time employment after the student graduates from the program later in the year.

Note: Due to immigration regulations governing employment, international students enrolled in the online format are not eligible to participate in campus-based employer recruitment events or internships in the U.S. Read details on these restrictions.

Summer Internships

Summer internships may be available for undergraduate business students who are accepted into the MAC Program, and who have completed all equivalent introductory courses at UNC - Chapel Hill. Typically, if a student has successful internship, the employer will make an offer of employment to begin upon completion of the MAC degree requirements. In these cases, the student starts the MAC Program already having secured a full-time job.

These summer internships begin immediately after undergraduate graduation. However, because interviews for these internships occur in the previous fall, students wishing to pursue one should apply for the MAC Program well ahead of the early admissions deadline and no later than August 1.

If you’re joining the program from a school other than UNC - Chapel Hill, don’t worry about missing out on the internship opportunity. Because of the compressed nature of the program, most students do not, in fact, pursue internships yet still receive multiple job offers during the recruiting process.
